1/3 I still can’t believe there isn’t a single comment yet about what happened on October 20th. On Friday morning, there was some sort of chemical leak in the building. I first noticed something was wrong when I was coming down the steps from my room. I heard a woman on one floor hysterically coughing. As I went down another flight, I heard a different women also having a coughing fit. At that point, it hit me and I began coughing. My eyes began tearing, I had blurry vision, and my sinuses and the back of my throat were burning. I had to run down the rest of the stairs. When I got to the lobby, I saw a hotel staff member. Her eyes were tearing and she had her hand over her mouth. I asked her “What is that?!” and she just shook her head and couldn’t say anything else. People all over the lobby were having coughing fits and many ran out of the hotel to get fresh air as I did. My boyfriend and I were planning to have breakfast in the lobby that morning but we clearly had to forgo our meal as it was not safe. We had a tour scheduled at the coliseum so we made our over there. Throughout the whole tour, my throat was scratchy and I couldn’t stop coughing. I felt light headed such that we had to end the tour earlier. I considered seeing a doctor because I was anxious and scared as to what effects the gas/chemical leak could have. When we finally returned to the hotel around 4:30 pm (16:30), I wanted an explanation. I asked Marco at the front desk what happened this morning and what caused everyone in the hotel to experience uncontrollable coughing, teary eyes, and strachiness, and Marco would not tell us what the noxious gas/chemical was. He simply shrugged and stated he did not know. Yet, he stated that everything was fine because guests were back in their rooms. This was not reassuring at all. I told him that if he did not know what the gas/chemical was and could not tell me what happened, I did not feel safe being in the hotel and sleeping there another night. Marco also guessed that maybe it was "a joke," which is even more concerning because the thought of it being an intentional act sounded like an organized threat/attack. At the same time, Marco was checking in 2 guests who made reservations with Hotel 87, yet they were being sent to another hotel down the block. The couple was confused as to why they were being sent to another hotel when they booked a room specifically with Hotel 87 and there were still several rooms available at the hotel (they checked online). I find it extremely discomforting that after what happened that morning, the hotel was sending new guests to a different hotel. This only goes to show that it was not safe for guests to continue staying at the hotel, or that your staff truly did not know what had happened and wanted to play it safe and avoid any liability by sending new guests to another hotel. At that point, my partner and I felt like we had no choice but to find another hotel. We asked Marco for a full refund of our stay as we had been extremely inconvenienced by this situation - we had to be rushed out of the hotel, we could not have breakfast at the hotel, we experienced lingering symptoms all day, we had to find another hotel and pay another 220 euros out of pocket, and we could not enjoy the hotel's amenities, including the gym and spa, as we had hoped. Marco said he could not issue the refund and that I had to contact the manager. I asked if I could have the phone number of the manager and Marco said I could only contact him by the general info email...
Read moreHey there 👋 I am going to share my experience with this hotel.. so me & my sister were in Rome between the 13/02 till 18/02 & stayed in Hotel 87 for 5 nights. The reason I chose this hotel was because it is located in the centre which is a big pro. Let me elaborate a bit.. The Trevi fountain & Barberini Metro station is just a 5 minute walk away which is great. Also there are lots and lots of shops near the hotel plus the hop on hop bus also stops there which is a big plus. Apart from this there are also many cafes and restaurants which is another plus point. Now lets talk about the room & the hotel services, so I booked a Junior Suite which was located at the 4th floor and we reached there on the 13th midnight hence I requested them to book a taxi that would pick us up from the airport. The moment we exited the airport we saw our driver holding the sign with our name & then he took us the car and I must say that the car was very spacious and nice. Neat and clean & we were happy. Now upon arriving to the hotel the gentleman at the reception handed us the room card and explained us the way to the room while we thought they would have a butler service who would help us take the luggage. They said they do not have butler service at late hours which I feel they should change and have butlers at those hours because just like us there are many people who take late flights and reach late. The room was cute, washroom was spacious which was great. But having said that I will definitely mention that the hotel being a 4 star needs some work done. For instance our room was daily being cleaned, the bed was always done nicely, the towels were changed but a small yet important thing the toilet paper was never refilled in-fact we ran out of it & asked for more. The floor didn’t look like it was cleaned, the telephone in the room never worked & I told this twice to the receptionists and they kept saying that they will have a look at it but no one ever came to check and fix it. The next morning we went to the buffet and well it was more of a mini buffet with only two hot options thats scrambled eggs with bacon, sausages in one pot and the other one had pancakes and boiled eggs. Apart from this they had croissants, two or three options of cake, butter, jam, nutella, bread slices & a toaster to toast if you’d like, some fruits, two juices & a coffee machine. It would be great it they also had an option to order omelette because they do have a kitchen where they make scrambled eggs so I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to have some more options. Another thing is that if you book a room here they give you a complimentary access to the Jacuzzi for 45 minutes which we were very eager to use but when we went in there the water was not that hot like how a jacuzzi usually is which is again something to they should pay attention to. They also have a roof top bar which we couldn’t explore this time so can’t say much on that. But overall for a 4 star hotel Id expect a bit more then what it was, it is located in a fab location and the hotel is also cute. A small and a cute boutique hotel that needs a bit of paying attention to details and fixation of things around to make it worth the experience. I hope the hotel staff would take the reviews in consideration and work on the things mentioned to...
Read moreI did not want to write this review as I generally look for the positive in my experiences. My partner booked this hotel as part of my 40th birthday. She booked the superior room which did not live up to its name.||||Firstly the hotel is in a great location and only a short walk from the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps. The reception staff were friendly and check in was easy.||||The room felt more basic than superior. The walls were painted in gloss paint which was scraped and marked. The Bathroom looked nice at first but the shower door would not shut properly which lead to water over the floor. There was black mould in the shower, the chrome had seen better days and the shower heads looked like they needed a good clean. The bed itself was rock hard and difficult to sleep on.||||The main issue we had was that on the second day of our trip we returned in the afternoon to find our room had been cleaned and the trash wasnt the only thing taking. Someone had gone in to the bedside table, went through my partners things and stolen 150 euros from her purse. Had they only stolen 10 or 20 we may have put this down to an error in our counting but the fact it was the full 150 means we could not miss the money. we went to reception and asked to speak to the manager and was told he would not be on till tomorrow (Sunday). We went out that night and tried to make the most of what was left of our short holiday. Sunday morning we met with the manager who at face value seemed genuinely concerned over the incident. He took our details and promised to look in to it. They have CCTV outside our room and as it's electronic looks they log all the cards that were used to open our door. He said he would offer a room upgrade, which we declined as it was our last night and didn't want to pack and unpack. He offered drinks on the rooftop bar etc. We agreed that as we only had one day left and the amount while significant to us wouldn't be worth claiming on our insurance we would not go to the police as it would mean losing 3-4 hours on our last day. We went out and when we returned the manager had left and he had left no instructions with the front desk staff regarding anything that had been discussed. We were disappointed. We were determined not to let it ruin the trip. We went to have drink on the rooftop terrace but when drinks were around 30-40 euros a drink we declined. On our last day we again asked at front desk if the manager had left any notes or instructions and again he had not and he was not on duty.||||Since returning home I have emailed the hotel directly and none of my emails have gone answered or even acknowledged.||||Rome is a beautiful city with great people and stunning food. If I ever return I can assure you we will not be...
