I recently had the unfortunate experience of staying at Hotel Hiberia, and I must say it was far from a pleasant stay. My initial arrival was good meeting with a friendly younger member of their front desk staff. He gave us the layout of the area giving us a map and circling areas of import. Sadly, he was going to be the best part of our experience.
Upon entering the room, we immediately noticed that the air conditioner was not working properly. Despite adjusting the settings and waiting patiently, the room remained uncomfortably hot at 80+ degrees. We went downstairs that night and requested a fan for the room. The front desk had changed to the night shift worker who said we would need to wait until morning to get a fan for our room. So, we sweat it out that night and waited until morning to make the request again.
The day went by and we came back to the room that night to our pleasure there were fans set up in the room. We turned them on and felt some relief. Soon after we found out why the room was so hot and the issue with our AC unit.
To our dismay, the air conditioning unit in that room had sprung a leak and made a small pool our water directly under it, inside one of our bags of luggage. Everything was soaked and had a disgusting odor to it ruining some of our belongings.
We called the front desk to let them know and they sent a maintenance worker to take a look. He came up and said there was nothing they could do about it now but they could take a look the morning. They currently had no other rooms to stay in so we had to move all our luggage to another hotel that night.
Seeking resolution, we decided to speak with the manager the next day. However, their attitude towards our predicament was utterly apathetic. Instead of offering a sincere apology or finding a solution, the manager seemed indifferent and uninterested in addressing our concerns. Their dismissive behavior was disheartening, leaving us feeling unvalued as guests.
After speaking with him I was informed I had to contact Expedia in order to seek any sort of refund. I then sat in the lobby for an hour trying to get help from Expedia and their manager coordinating together to get a refund. The manager had something else to do and had told Expedia to contact them back later. I was contacted 2 days later by Expedia being informed I would receive a partial refund for my stay.
I hope this review serves as a cautionary tale for future guests considering Hotel Hiberia. It's essential to be aware of the potential risks and lack of accountability when it comes to maintaining basic amenities and delivering satisfactory...
Read moreEdit - I posted a bunch of photos of my room, but I guess the hotel didn't want them shown, so they false-reported them, and that's why they're not hidden. Unfortunately, I can't do anything about it. I have hundreds of reviews, all fair, and this is the first time this has happened.
First off, the hotel is in a great 5 star location. Easy walk to the Coliseum, Trevi Fountain, and pretty much anything of relevance in the old city, but Vatican city.
The service was five stars, as they're very helpful and professional. In terms of the room it was good and bigger than a lot of hotel rooms in Europe. The walls seem pretty thin as I could hear my neighbors, but not a huge deal.
They also have a nice restaurant next door with a very good staff and food. There's also a coffee shop and Gelato store directly across the street.
The shower curtain rod is about 8ft high if you like to throw a towel over it like I do. There's also a huge sink, but for some reason the faucet was installed in a way that it barely pours into the sink.
The biggest issue I had with my room was the mattress. It was the most uncomfortable I've slept on in Europe, and that's saying a lot. I couldn't even sleep my normal amount because my back hurt so much. Not to be too dramatic, but I imagined that it must be like a jail mattress😄
There was a closet, desk, and view onto the front street in the room I was in.
I gave the room 3 stars because it was good. I give 4 stars to rooms that are plush/flawless and 5 stars to rooms that are opulent, over-the-top, and absolutely amazing. The stars for this hotel are good and I would have no problem staying there again, albeit on a...
Read moreWe originally booked this hotel for three reasons: price, location, and the fact they had rooms that would sleep more than two people. I had followed numerous Facebook pages for Rome travel and Mediterranean cruises prior to our trip and had seen very few mentions of Hotel Hiberia so I was a little nervous, but I could not have been more pleased with this hotel. We had two four person rooms, which were quite large. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We did the breakfast option with our stay, which was a buffet in the restaurant next door and well worth the price. While the hotel is older it does have and elevator and AC. The elevator is small and old but works and we never had to wait too long for it (although we did usually walk down).
The only hiccup I had with this stay was that they require a deposit of your first night payment- for some reason none of my cards would work (even after calling the bank) and the payment link they send is a one time use link, which meant I had to have them send a new link to try a different credit card. Throughout trying to deal with this, the hotel service really shined. They were very quick to respond and help, both through email and Whatsapp (special thanks to Marco who chatted with me, sending me links and letting me know payment status until we got it resolved-his help made me so glad I had chosen this hotel before we even showed up).
The hotel was extremely well located, walkable to the Roman Forum, Trevo Fountain and more.
Overall, Hotel Hiberia was a very pleasant hotel, in a great location, with outstanding service. It can’t be beat if you are looking for larger...
