Hotel Bagner — Hotel in Sirmione

Having spent two nights in Verona, It was time to head to the lakes for what we hoped would be a slight respite to the extreme hot temperatures of Verona. Never mind - most of Europe is in the middle of a mega heatwave, and our lake visit was just as hot as the city.||I booked a good 6 months in advance, and was pleased with the advance communication from Donatella.||Having done my advance research, i chose this albergo on its excellent location, as well as it having a good sized swimming pool.||We travelled from verona to Sirmione by Breschia bus service 026 - an hourly service from Verona bus station to Breschia that calls at the southern lake garda resorts for a vast ticket price of under 4 euros one way! The bus stop for this service is approx 5 minute walk from the albergo. ||Please do remember that this is a family run albergo/b&b - not a full service hotel. However, they have a lovely terrace, a large swimming pool, shaded car parking, bikes for hire, and a residents bar area. everywhere was clean and tidy.||We were warmly welcomed by Donatella, who quickly checked us in, and provided us with lake garda discount cards - very useful as it offered lake ferry discounts! excellent.||The twin bed room on the first floor was perfectly adequate, flat screen tv, plenty of wardrobe space, air con, desk area and shower room. My bed was perfectly comfortable, but my travelling companion found her bed hard. you cannot please everyone. We had a small balcony overlooking the terrace, but note if the balcony door is not closed then the air con wont work! the shower room is a bit small and had a noisy fan, but it was perfectly adequate for the 4 day stay.||Breakfast was juices, tea/coffee, cold cuts and cheeses, boiled eggs, croissants etc, and Donatellas home made yoghurt cake. try a slice - delightful!||Bar prices are exceptionally reasonable - and the patio the ideal place for a sundowner.||Donatella and the family were always available to help with information etc..on the last day we had problems with the airline website. Donatella phoned the airline immediately, and the problem was soon solved. thank you! we even managed to secure keeping our room on till late afternoon. We were very lucky to get this, and at a reasonable price too!||We had no problems whatsoever with the internet connection, and i was able to do all i needed even out on the patio. Now one of the reasons for booking this albergo was the swimming pool - but our choice of getting out on the lake and visiting other lake resorts meant we never got to use it. however, we did walk round the pool, which was clean, and with plenty of loungers etc. It was popular with other guests.||across the roundabout from the bus stop for the 26 service was an excellent restaurant, along with a tourist info office and other shops etc.||Nearer to the albergo at another roundabout, is the bus service down to the castle entrance to Sirmione old town. The bus service runs every 15 mins from approx 6am to gone midnight. It gets very busy especially in high summer. Buy your tickets from the ticket machine at the stop for just 1 euro (aug 2018) or 1.50 euros pay on the bus.||We had a great 4 days at the Bagner - and very pleased at choosing such an excellent place to stay. I have no Italian relatives, but if I were ever to have family in Italy, this is what it would be like when you visit your Mamma in Bella Italia. This hotel is a little off the historic old town, which makes it affordable for a smaller budget. It has an outdoor pool. It is not the newest standard, but you get everything that you need. One skill you should have: knowing how to mix water! You need one hand for hot water and one for cold, and you get your preferred temperature. The bar prices are very normal. The buffet is small, but "Pappa and Mamma" are always running to keep the full selection available. It is not presented like in a 5* hotel, but it functions like a cooling system. The food looked more family-style, but in a professional way. She offered a home-made cake and showed the recipe at the buffet. It is a perfect hub for a bike vacation. Officially, they have check-in times. We informed them that we would arrive late. Their comments: we should not worry—when we arrive, we will be welcomed...

Zuerst das Hotel ist sauber, die Lage ist mega, unser Zimmer war groß und geräumig und die beiden Hoteliers sehr nett. Das war es dann auch schon, der Reihe nach ... Das Hotel ist auf Grund seiner sehr guten Lage gut zu finden und liegt ca. 400 Meter nach links und rechts vom Gardasee. Eingecheckt haben wir Samstag und sagte gleich, dass wir am Montag früh um 5 Uhr anreisen möchten. Die Dame machte große Augen und meinte, dass sie erst um 6 Uhr aufschließen. Ja, im Internet steht erst ab 7 Uhr. Das war aber bei anderen Hotels am Gardasee kein Problem, da moderne und gastfreundliche Schließanlage. Das kam uns schon merkwürdig vor. Ok ... Sonntag nach dem Frühstück sprachen wir nochmal mit ihr wegen der Uhrzeit. Es war eine mega Diskussion! Sie sagte dann, dass das Hotel Abends gegen 21/22 Uhr abgeschlossen wird und erst morgens, wie schon geschrieben, wieder aufgeschlossen. Ich machte den Vorschlag, wir könnten nach dem raus gehen wieder abschließen und den Schlüssel in den Briefkasten werfen ... Große Diskussionen ... Dann müsste eben ihr Bruder, oder wer der Herr auch war, eine Stunde (!) früher aufstehen. Dieser hörte das, böser Blick, Kopf runter und ab in die Küche. Als wir nochmal an ihm vorbei gingen bekamen wir nur eine bösen Blick zurück. Montag morgen kurz vor 5 Uhr kamen wir runter, er war da und die Tür offen. Wir verabschieden und bedankten uns höflich. So ... wie geschrieben, dass Hotel ist sauber und die Leute soweit nett. Aber ... das Hotel ist total altbacken. Wenn man dort vor 30 Jahren war und dachte, hier könnte mal was neu gemacht werden, 30 Jahre später ... gleicher Gedanke. Hier wird wohl nur das neu gemacht was wohl kaputt geht, nichts renoviert ... nichts modernisiert. Der Pool soweit schön, aber hier sind alle Platten an der Umrandung lose! Das Frühstück bis auf die Wurst und Käse und Kuchen ... schlecht. Die Brötchen machten den Eindruck als wären sie vom Vortag, obwohl Geschäfte Sonntags geöffnet haben. Der Kaffee war ein Instantkaffee ... schrecklich und das im Land des Kaffees. Da wir die Jahre zuvor an verschiedenen Orten am Gardasee waren, wissen wir, es geht besser. Nochmal wegen dem Ab- und Aufschließen. Was machen sie, wenn man mal länger unterwegs ist, man ist ja schließlich im Urlaub. Kommt man dann nicht mehr rein und muss irgendwo übernachten? Wenn Nachts ein Notfall wäre, wie kommt man raus um z.B. ins Krankenhaus zu fahren? Heir gehört einfach eine moderne Schließanlage her, wo man als Gast flexibel sein kann! Beim rausgehen am Montag Morgen achtete ich auf die Eingangstür. Von außen mit einem Türhohen Gitter verschlossen und innen mit einem Vorhängeschloss und dicker Kette.

Alles im allem war der Aufenthalt für zwei Übernachtungen nett, mehr nicht und würden es auch nicht wieder buchen. Und vom Preis/Leistungsverhältnis zu teuer. Wer allerdings auf diesen nostalgischen Look steht, ist hier...
