We stayed here for 3 nights early September for our 10 year wedding anniversary. It was the first time we’d been to Venice and it definitely didn’t disappoint. ||Before I write the hotel review, I would like to highlight to travellers that haven’t been to Venice before and perhaps aren’t aware of how the travel works to and from the airport that no cars are allowed onto the Venice island. We weren’t aware of this before we travelled and paid €90 (£80) for a taxi that drops you at the termini. You then head over a very large bridge and walk to your hotel. I would recommend that you take the bus from the airport which takes the same length of time for around €11 (£10). The buses leave the airport terminal frequently. The hotel is around a 20 minute walk from the termini. I would recommend paying the £2 roaming fees (check price with your network provider) as it would have been impossible to find the hotel without- we arrived quite late at night. ||We had let the hotel know that we would be arriving late and they arranged for a member of staff to be there to greet us. The hotel is small, with very few rooms, but lovely and very comfortable. Our bedroom had a balcony that looked onto the canal- not sure all rooms do, so definitely ask if this option is available as the view was beautiful in the morning. Although the room also overlooked the streets it was very quiet and we weren’t disturbed. Breakfast was tasty- it was a cold breakfast of cereal, yogurt, meats, cheese, rolls and pastries and the coffee was delicious! ||There are lots restaurants and bars close to the hotel. You will find that a lot of them around lunch and dinner will not serve drinks only- you will need to search out these places that will. ||A lot of people tend to head towards the Grand Canal for meals. You will pay extra in these places and to be honest they aren’t as nice as the cute quirky places around the side streets. There is a very small pizza/pasta place with canal side eating, close to the hotel called Al Garzoti. It’s highly rated on trip advisor and was delicious and cheap- it gets very busy so you will need to book. ||We didn’t take a gondola, but there are plenty of these available. If I remember rightly a 30 minute ride was around €70. We did take one of the boat trips to a couple of the neighbouring islands- I would definitely recommend seeing Burano. The colourful houses and buildings are so pretty! These boat rides are pretty reasonably priced. ||Enjoy your trip...
Read more!!UPDATE: AFTER ALL THE YEARS AWAY AND THE COVID, WE ARE PLANNING TO RETURN TO VENICE IN 2022. UNFORTUNATELY THIS PLACE IS PERMANANTLY CLOSED. SO SAD.!!After the utter shock of being in Venice wore off , and we got our bearings, we finally arrived at the staircase to Locanda Sant'Agostin. Being a typical American tourist I charged up the stairs and opened forcefully the front door. To my astonishment and the staff at the desk, I suddenly realized that the staff was to buzz you in after you rang the bell. Apologizing for my stupidity the staff checked us in and led us to our 2 bedroom apartment with canal view down Calle de Pistor(to my wife's dismay I called it the little street of the urinator, not the little street of the painter as I found out). We were led up a dark, dank, spidery webbed staircase to the door to crown jewels(was really just a secure door with a lot of locks) and led into a fantastic, bright, air conditioned apartment that overlooks a canal. It was clean and neat, and the toilet flushed(woo hoo). The apartment looked out all 4 directions and each had it's own wonders to see. The best view was out a tiny little window in the bathroom, that I was able to grab some free wifi out of, and looked down into a courtyard that was of the local handyman. It was jamb packed with pipes and boards and sinks and tubs. He had 20 different projects started and seemed to be working on them all at the same time. The breakfast was totally awesome to a foreigner. The blonde German looking northern Italian woman that served breakfast made the most amazing coffee we have ever had. The rest of the breakfast was top notch. This place was expensive but worth every penny. If I ever get to Venice again in my life I will stay here. Kudos to...
Read moreWe booked in this hotel from 29-10 to 1/11 but we couldn’t arrive to the hotel in the first night because of Venice floods, we tried to contact the hotel but unfortunately we couldn’t reach them ! So we stayed till2:00 am looking for a place to sleep in that terrible night. In the morning we noticed that the hotel canceled our booking without contacting us knowing that the floods was all over venice. We called them telling them how they could cancel it and we couldn’t reach you because of floods! They said now you can come cause the roads are better. We reached the hotel and checked in and everything was ok. We asked for a refund for the first night and the guy who was there said sure no problem but we received an email the 2nd night that they will not refund because of our no show. Knowing that we tried to contact them that night but they was unreachable and sent them an email. Till now they haven’t replied to our email or considered our experience that night knowing that that night there were many people stuck with us and all asked...
