Title: Disappointing Experience at Oche San Giacomo in Venice
My recent dining experience at Oche San Giacomo in Venice left much to be desired. Despite being a frequent traveler to Venice and having sampled various cuisines around the world, the lack of hospitality and subpar service at this establishment was truly disappointing.
Upon entering the restaurant, there was an immediate sense of unwelcomeness. The service was rated at 1 out of 5, and unfortunately, it lived up to that low standard. The staff lacked basic courtesy and manners, failing to exhibit the universal language of hospitality that transcends cultural barriers. While language barriers can be overcome, the absence of basic politeness was glaring.
Despite my hopes for a memorable dining experience, the food fell short of expectations. While not the worst I've ever had, it was far from the best. The quality of the dishes, particularly the soup, left much to be desired. A mere concoction of boiled water with a few spices and veggies hardly qualifies as soup, especially for someone who appreciates culinary expertise.
While towards the end after the dinner when the staff realized I was checking the review online they changed their tone a bit but it was of no use by then as damage has already been done. As someone who believes in highlighting positive experiences rather than dwelling on negatives, it's rare for me to leave a negative review. However, I feel compelled to offer constructive feedback in the hopes of improvement. Hospitality is key in the service industry, and humility goes a long way in creating a welcoming atmosphere for patrons.
In conclusion, I sincerely hope that Oche San Giacomo takes this feedback into consideration and works towards enhancing the quality of their service and cuisine. While I may not be inclined to return in the near future, I remain optimistic that with some improvements, they can attract more customers and provide a truly enjoyable dining...
Read moreWe had a great gluten free meal options with this restaurant. For our final night in Italy we had the requirement of good pasta and pizza for my wife to find from reviews in Venice and she came up with this restaurant
Arrived during a rather warm evening after a 15 minute walk from our hotel. I was questioning my wife's restaurant choice as we walked past other restaurants with plenty of ppl happily eating, but in the end I am glad we did.
To start we had Aperol Spritz which cooled us down some perusing the menu. By the end of the meal we had quite a few more spritzers as they were delicious!
The staff were chatty and friendly suggested we go into the courtyard where there were fans. Table breads were provided (that had gluten) and enjoyed by the kids.
5⭐ Spaghetti Aglio Olio E Peperancio - perfectly cooked pasta with oil, garlic and chilli. This was gluten containing pasta and asked for extra chilli heat. It was perfect to make me sweat and enjoy the flavours.
5⭐ Spaghetti alla Bolognese - my son ate so much Bolognese pasta while travelling through Italy and said this was a delicious rich tomato flavour. Here all of our pastas were perfectly cooked as al dente
4.5⭐ Spaghetti alla Carbonara - my daughter's favourite pasta dish, and to be honest we struggled to get the best flavours besides in Roma. She said it was good at this restaurant with the silky creamy egg and cheese sauce providing the salty flavours.
4⭐ Gluten free Diavola pizza - a pizza with generous rich tomato sauce that overpowered some of the other flavours. Quite wet and due to the sauce richness too much for one person
After dinner the staff bought us out complimentary limoncello which was a nice way to end our meal and time in Italy

Read moreThis was a find for me and my wife. The drinks are great and the price is fair. The food is the main attraction here. They have sizeble portions for the price the other restaurants offer what looks like a half portion comparatively. It doesn't look like from outside, but the place has a great open backyard with open-air tables. Also, two salooms inside with more tables. The staff was the most friendly staff I found in my 5 days stay in Venice. This is the second time I'm here and in total I've spent two weeks. I was never treated this good...
I had a request to change one of the dishes.... most places will handle this badly and will even say they can't do it. This waiting staff. Stopped and listened carefully to everything and said they would make anything I wanted. And they did. I've had a calzone with all personalized ingredients. Also, the Aperol Spritz here is great and again... this is after drinking this for two weeks. From the rip-off Piazza San Marco bars to the cheap ones on the other corner of Venice. In a sea of restaurants and among 1000 other options for Italian food. I'd recommend this is my top pick.
I'd also recommend the Minestroni soup if you are into soups. But bear in mind this is not a starter dish. It comes in a big bowl and it's a main dish.
If you have anything to add, just ask the staff. I'm sure they will be helpful and friendly to give you tips on how to make your meal taste better than...
