From the moment the taxi door swung door – it was heaven.||||Staff were waiting at the entrance to whisk all our bags away and we were escorted by the wonderful English speaking lady into the entrance. On Hana Beppu's request we relinquished our shoes at the front door and experienced the wonderful sensation of walking on the soft tatami matting which runs throughout Hana Beppu, together with the soft springiness of the cushioned bamboo flooring. We were guided through the most intricate woven bamboo screen, to relaxing cane chairs overlooking the beautiful Japanese Garden. There we sat whilst check in was completed on our behalf – heaven, why do not more hotels offer check in like this! .As we got up – I noticed a young girl on the other side of the bamboo screen wiping the travel dust off the wheels of our suitcases, an indication of the level of cleanliness, Our wonderful English speaking guide took to a great deal of time to give us a tour of the Hotel and facilities, including the open pillow store that boasts 16 different types of pillows for each guest’s own personal selection. Amazing! Stress levels by this stage were plummeting as the quietness of the tatami matting and peacefulness of the Hana Beppu wrapped itself around us.||||The food – oh my goodness the food was a visual artistic and culinary delight – every morning and every night it was different. Small artistic sculptures were delivered one after the other – perfect deliciousness in every mouthful. Chef clearly taking great pride in delivering top quality local food together with the presentation an art form in it’s own right. The mode of delivery changed with every course from evervescent luminous lacquer green to round riven slate and hand moulded clay. Loved it all. Service was always spot on, lovely charming waitresses. We chose a package that included breakfast and dinner and for us it worked perfectly.||||The staff, without exception, set Hana Beppu apart. Genuinely caring and helpful and all went out of their way to help as we did not speak Japanese. On our first night each course at dinner was explained in detail which greatly helped our understanding going forward.||||We have stayed in many Hotels worldwide but Hana Beppu is in a class of it’s own. The design is contemporary modern with many traditional references to Beppu’s history of bamboo, the Japanese Garden and Tatami Matting. This is a light, clean and calm place for couples and families. The place runs like silk.||||A welcoming touch was the morning and afternoon complementary traditional tiny steamed buns served with either green tea or coffee. A communal table and a good opportunity to connect with other guests.|| ||Our room was a Hagoiomo, type Yumeakari (Room 405), and whilst not as large as the other Hagoiomo types, I actually really liked the layout. Sliding doors abound so you can shut off the bathroom end completely. The basin is in it’s own room with glass door to shower and lovely bath tub. The toilet is in a separate room with it’s own sliding door. Most useful was a tea coffee making facility with kettle, specialist coffee machine and an overhead cabinet that can house any drink or food items you may have bought. Underneath is a fridge. Ample storage with hanging rails, with proper wooden hangers that lift off the rail, and wonderful practical sliding out wooden shelves for folded items. Great combinations of lighting mean you can change the mood depending on the time of day. The floor bean bags I looked at skeptically but actually they were really comfortable. There was also a two seater sofa. Being on the corner of the building meant it was lovely and quiet and we were double aspect, not so much for a view, but for natural light.||||I used the Hotel Onsen once, only because I preferred the open air Onsen’s that Beppu is famous for. The Onsen is very convenient and clean and a good place to ‘learn’ protocols. There are lockers for your belongings, though Hana Beppu provides each guest daily with a sort of pyjama suit to wear around the Hotel which is simpler to take off than normal clothes for the Hotel Onsen. There are also hairdryers for when you come out. Three different pools, two inside and one outside, gender separated. Though you can hire a private onsen to share with the family.||||Location, metres down the road from a bus stop that will take you right up to Myoban Onsen, cost was around 340 Yen. Taxi for same trip cost approximately 2000 Yen. I managed to get buses to most of the places I was going, so the location was good, although bus timings are not always reliable. Take a numbered ticket as you get on the bus, the number correlates to the fare you will have to pay which is a changing display at the front of the bus, You pay as you leave the bus. Sometimes though, due to pressure of time, a taxi is best and reception are very happy to order one for you, or indeed any onsen or attraction you are visiting will order one for you to go back to the Hotel Ten minutes walking down the hill to Beppu Bus Station. Car hire may be a good investment as everywhere we went there seemed to be ample parking.||||Do not hesitate, I can not recommend Hana Beppu highly enough, it is a...

I stayed at Hana Beppu for 3 nights in April. It was lovely weather in Beppu and it was my first time in Kyushu island. We chose Beppu as our base to explore the island outside of Fukuoka. We didn't really know what to expect and was certainly surprised when we first arrived and had to take out our shoes in the lobby, well being asian I should have known, but what came next was a wow, they took my luggage and started cleaning the wheels (BIG THANK YOU! even though its probably done to prevent damage to the floor). The thing is the whole hotel is covered in tatami and bamboo so you walk about through the whole hotel barefooted. It was great as it meant a very clean environment for our little 2 year old to crawl/run about. ||||Service was excellent and they did my check in while my baby continued sleeping in the car with the mother. They were patient and very accommodating. One thing that initially bothered me was our room was hot, because of the glass windows and direct sunlight, there was a greenhouse effect, and because it was spring, air conditioning was set to heater mode. I had no choice but to bring the girl out of the hotel to cool down. Thankfully the staff noticed my distressed and switched the air conditioning on for me. I did encounter the same problem again but the staff provided me a fan which was a blessing. ||||The room we stayed was a Japanese western style room with two beds. It also had a large bath tub that was fantastic. We opted for the half board so both breakfast and dinner was included. That was a lifesaver as it meant we didnt need to worry about what to eat in the evenings. The room was excellent, large, comfortable, very good water pressure in the shower and tub. Aside from the room temperature (which was resolved) there was really no complaints about the room. There was one night where we had a really really terrible crowd of tourist that came in a bus and made so much noise in their rooms but our double doors made sure we were sleeping peacefully. (note that aside from the check in, i never encountered the tour group in the hotel spaces thereafter)||||Back to the food. Breakfast was good, ate lots of fish and there were the buffet of salads, pickles each day. Dinner on the other hand was multi coursed and never the same. We were privileged to have on some evenings served by a nice lady by the name of Enomoto (used google translate hope I got it right). She explained each dish in english with the origin and how to eat it. The dinners were an educational experience and it helped us appreciate the culture even more. ||||Hana Beppu has free parking and is in easy walking distance to the train station and the park. It has its own onsen but i didnt use it (not my cup of tea). ||||All in, Hana Beppu is a place to relax, i noticed Japanese stay there and I think its because its like a good getaway. Will I stay there again if I need a base in the area? I certainly would. Strongly recommended for families,...

I cannot give enough praise to warrant this hotel justice. In my 3 week holiday around Japan, this was one of my top 2 hotels I stayed in. Stayed here for two nights, wished I stayed longer. The onsen is just amazing. So good I didn’t bother going to other onsens in Beppu, cause I was very happy with the hotels. The location is excellent. It’s a 3 mins walk from Beppu station, but also on the quieter side of Beppu yet still walkable to all the restaurants. I did dinner one night and it was a memorable authentic experience. The sukiyaki was mouth watering and the drinks options were plentiful. The hotel has Yamato service which I strongly recommend if you have heavy luggage. This has everything I want in a hotel; impeccable customer service, excellent location, first class facilities, well maintained rooms and an onsen that will be long remembered.

Had a wonderful time here. Rooms are big for the 3 of us. My daughter enjoy the plushy futon very much. The welcome drink was in the fridge in our room. Very refreshing. We had to check in our shoes at the reception area and walk around in our socks or we can go barefooted. Make sure your socks have no holes haha. We booked the private onsen for a charge of ¥2200 for 50 mins. Water was really hot and great. There’s a matcha corner where you can make your own matcha from 3-5pm. And a pillow room to choose your own additional pillow. Breakfast was traditional Japanese set - main dish with rice and miso soup. It includes a buffet spread of seaweed, kimchi, and other condiments and salad.

My family stayed there in Feb 2025 for 2 nights, the hygiene is surperb, their staffs would keep all the guests' shoes at reception and the facilities and room were in very new conditions. They offer a flexibility that it is available to change for the Japanese dinner for my 2 kids instead of their western style set and the Japanese set is very fullful and tastely, please contact the hotel in advance if you need the above arrangement. Although their breakfast is simple, the raw eggs rice is very special and also tastely. Their room price is not low but it is surely value to money.
