The building which houses this restaurant is what drew us to dine there. The menu is simple but there's no English menu. So be prepared. We ordered the Beppu local cuisine called Dangojiru. Be sure to squeeze a bit (not too much) of the sliced lemon served with the Dangojiru. Add a sprinkle of ichimi. The zesty lemon and peppery ichimi balances out the broth very well. You'll find the old charm of the settings very welcoming and homey. Love the food and settings. After the meal, I did a bit of research into Shinanoya. Interesting...

Very cosy chaya that makes their own ingredients for the menu. Very delicious hand-pulled dough noodles in savory and slightly citrusy fragrance. A healthy and very satisfying lunch option! They also have a wide variety of desserts and serve their hot drinks in a pretty collection of tea and coffee cups. Run by a bunch of really friendly senior ladies. This place is a 15 min walk from Beppu station and a must visit...

Thoroughly enjoy the Yaseuma (hand pulled noodle) soup. Got the set that came with rice and assorted side dishes which were fresh and delicious. The soup felt like a warm hug in the cool spring morning.

Got the butter toast set for my son that came with a salad and coffee.
