It was a few years back that we stayed here for a night in December. Still can remember how rude the staffs were. We were driving from the north to the hotel and because it was snowing, traffic was a bit slower than what we have expected. We finally arrived hotel 30 mins later than what we have mentioned in the booking, the lady who checked us in, after acknowledging our booking already put on a long face. We understand that being punctual is very important in Japan and we quickly apologised for our late arrival. The lady after hearing our apology just threw out some cool words: yes, and we did called your phones a few times. At this point we just realized that we forgot to change the SIM card with the no.that the hotel had called. We immediately apologised again, however, the check in lady didn't show any more pleasant face. ||During the stay was generally okay and the food was average. We booked a room with private onzen but the onzen in the balcony is lack of privacy. People down in the carpark can easily see the bath. I cannot say the staffs were welcoming, hardly saw a smiling face on them. ||What made it an even more terrible experience was the time we checked out. We were at the room arranging our luggages and we had to drive straight to the airport later. It was a 5 mins late than the announced check out time, the phone rang and the staff in the phone was rushing us to go. We told them we need little more time and were coming soon. However another 5 mins later when we were about to step out of our room, the phone rang again and the staff reminded us the check out time! Come on, it's only a 10 mins time and what could have been done if we left 10 mins earlier? Will you treat your guests in this manner? Of course when we went down, the front desk staff was not welcoming as usual, put on his long face and was annoyed when we were deciding which card to be charged. ||It was a totally upset experience in this hotel, we don't know what happened to these staffs to make them put on long faces. We love Japan and we have stayed in many different kinds of accommodation in Japan, from B &B to luxury hotels. But never in our experience that we were treated like this. It really ruin our trip that we had met so many...
Read moreIt's a typical japanese hotel, large one. ||it's located on half mountain, a bit away from main city. hotel provide shuttle bus to train station. but I still recommend you driving yourself. it gives you much more flexibility between these small cities.||You could always expect the best service in japanese hotel. Staffs are very polite, although they made a mistake of my private spa booking, but I still enjoy their service with smile. And the day we leave had a heavy snow. Without request, in the early morning staffs cleared the snow on the car and the parking area, got it well prepared for our departure. This is what I called SERVICE.||Hotel has old rooms and rennovated rooms. I booked the old one, it has magnificant view of the mountain valley, river and Gero city street. the decoration is old indeed, but still okay. If you pay a bit more buck, the innovated room must be more adorable.||Onsen is very good! I would say the public spa is good enough, because it both male and female bath contains a open air bath over looking the valley. ||2 private baths on the 2nd floor are okay, tub is small, not as good as I expected. But hotel has some private baths outside the main building, surrounded by real nature. Although in cold winter with snow covering the mountain path, walking out to bath could be very cold and not convenient, but it still would be nice. I didn't get chance to check out. ||Food is nice, not the best one I had, but good enough accordingly to its flat rate. ||Overall, this is not a delicate boutique resort, but a large scale hotel with flat rate. Considering this case, I have no...

The driver and other attendants don't speak much English but they made sure everything was fine with me. Food was great. I was allowed to pick two mushrooms before entering the dining area. The one the shuttle bus driver chose for me was the best I ever had. I was a solo traveller and assigned to a table with lots of privacy, which took away all the embarrassment I could have felt amid other couples and families.||||A trip to Gero is never complete without onsen. The onsen in this hotel was also excellent. Large pool and nice view. An unforgetable first for me!||||There were a few delightful surprises. After dinner, I found a bottled sake in my tatami room. And even better was I made friends with Yuta, a guy I met during breakfast. He's as pleasant and friendly and cheerful as all other staff in the hotel. And he speaks English quite well and we had a very happy chat!! This is his last month with the hotel and I wish him all the best. Hope some other travellers will have the luck to meet Yuta and all other wonderful people in this hotel. ||||Shuttle bus available! But it's a short walk from the JR...
