Small Ryokan - only 16 rooms - near the river in Gero. It’s not as grand as some of the other places in the area, but it’s clean, the staff are super friendly (they even speak a bit of English if you get stuck), and both the indoor and outdoor baths are great for relaxing - my tip is to wait until after 9 (the baths are open 24/7), as you’ll most likely have the bath to yourself. You can also book a 40 minute slot in the private bath. Dinner (small portions but about 10 courses), includes the local speciality Hida beef, along with sashimi and tempura. This is one of the places where you get your own private dining room as opposed to being served in your room or at a restaurant. Our room was 3man something yen each, which is actually pretty cheap for this kind of place. Write to your family on one of the complimentary postcards, or read The Teachings Of Buddha, which you’ll find on a shelf, or simply open a window and chill out to the sounds of nature..! One complaint though, was that our room had no view and the window simply looked out over a courtyard into someone else’s room. Bit of a design flaw! But it didn’t really spoil anything. All in all we had a great experience chilling and relaxing before returning to work. Definitely...
Read moreWe were truly impressed by our two-night stay at Kasuitei. We enjoyed the gracious hospitality – it set a high bar for Japanese service. One of our travellers fell sick one day before arrival, but the hotel agreed to waive cancellation charges. It was a kind gesture on their part.||The hotel bridged the language barrier. We were hosted by a front desk who spoke eloquent English and staff who went out of their way to use Google translate to introduce breakfast dishes. I’ve visited many ryokans that introduce their Kaiseki in Japanese, leaving guests perplexed. The front desk gave us food recommendations and helped us make a reservation.||Our room was immaculate, spacious and cosy. It offered a beautiful window view (would look amazing in autumn with scarlet red leaves).||We liked the hotel’s attention to detail. For instance, the futon pillow was concave and provided neck support. The public and private onsens were new, clean and well-maintained. There was also a massage chair for use after taking a bath.||Breakfast was delectable. I miss the main dish for my day-one breakfast – grilled vegetables in a hot plate of rich miso.||We highly recommend a stay at...
Read moreExperience the finest of Japanese hospitality. We had a very private time in MoMo (桃), a washitsu (和室) style room.
On arriving, 田口真孝San warmly welcomed and greeted us at the door.. Upon entering this family run inn, you will get nothing except the impeccable omotenashi (おもてなし, 御持て成し) hospitality.
We thank everyone here, including the kitchen members, of the exquisite experience you have showered upon us. The matriarch greeted us several times to ensure we were fine. As we are more casual people, the lady that serves us dinner also adjusted her solemnity so as to cater to our fun-loving mood. Thank you for the kindness of taking good care of us.
Madam's daughter shared that onsen nourishes our body and skin. Indeed! A beautiful calligraphy hanging in the bedroom says, "Knowing to remain silent keeps all our troubles away." That nourishes our heart (心).
ありがとう夫人,先生。🙏
For guests who like to book this inn. Rest assured, everything is taken care of once we arrived at Gero station. Simply hop into any taxi waiting outside the station, show them the name of the inn, and your pampering...
