This is a small, boutique property without the hefty price tag. We skied in late Feb 2017, excellent snow still at Hakuba. Luna Hotel is so close to the Happo One lifts, a five minute walk in ski boots and you are home! Great position and definitely one of the closest properties to the lifts.||||Our room was great with a huge bed, fantastic for collapsing in after a hard day's skiing. The small ensuite is adequate with a little bath, enough to soak for 10 minutes. Our room was on the lower level, very warm with heater in the room as well and window looking out through the Wadono Forest. The Luna is very close to a variety of different restaurants, small bars and places to eat so you do not have to eat at the hotel restaurant if you choose not to. The breakfast included in the package at the Luna was basic but adequate. The lounge / bar area at the Luna Hotel is lovely, very warm and great to relax by the fire with a good red and meet new friends.||||Overall, a great property although the evening meals at the Luna restaurant were lacking. Very westernised, schnitzel, goulash with the same menu nightly, not much variety which was disappointing as sometimes you just don't want to go outside into the cold again. Would like to have had some more traditional Japanese food or even some good hearty soups, pea and ham with crusty bread..... spaghetti Bolognese, lasagne or more meals with vegetables. Basic meals like this would have been more sustainable after skiing all day. ||||Apart from that, I could recommend the property, David was the manager when we stayed earlier this year and he couldn't do enough to help. David was excellent from meeting us to assisting with any organisation that we needed and the team he led were also very good and helped out always when requested.||||Thanks David for a truly enjoyable holiday. Read moreFrom start to finish, I was treated to the best of Japanese hospitality in the Olympic certified village (from Nagano 1998) of Hakuba.||||The service provided by husband and wife team, Julian & Tomoko, was second to none.||From the hearty English Breakfast to the large mugs of Yebisu beer and salty snacks (nuts, crisps & nippon snacks) apres ski, I was comfortably looked after!||||I ate at the hotel restaurant on numerous evenings, enjoying shabu shabu (fine slivers of pork imported from manager Tomoko's hometown) to the tastiest gyoza this side of Shanghai.||The bedrooms were very comfortable with King Sized beds, strong power showers and welcome KitKats (Green tea/Dark Chocolate....yummm!)||||Last but definitely not least, the staff make this place. From check in to departure not a smile leaves their face. All are willing and able to do their best for you. From Will making sure my beer mug was never empty to Misaki keeping me fed and watered throughout my stay, these guys make the Hotel Luna what it is. Shout out to Prem, who fed me his mother's best curry, and Yosuke who knew the mountains like no other.||||At the hotel they have a boot room which is perfect for drying off today's wet clothes (especially useful after demonstrating your 960 front toe grab) as well as a games room, replete with pinball and table tennis!||||If you ever needed anything (directions, a lift to a restaurant or just some local advice), the staff were more than willing to...
Read moreJust returned home to England from probably our best holiday ever.||After spending time in Tokyo we headed to Hakuba and the Luna Hotel for a bit of snowboarding and skiing and this hotel was the star of our trip. Husband & wife team, Julian & Tomoko and their fantastic staff, really looked after us from the day we arrived to the day we left, doing everything they could to make our stay perfect.....everything done with a big smile. The location is a couple of minutes walk from the chair lift at Happo One, unfortunately this was the worst snow conditions for many years so we tended to get the free bus to other locations which had more snow on their pistes, even Julian couldn't sort the snow out! The heated boot room is large and you can hang all your gear up which was nice and warm the next day. Compared to European bedrooms, these were really big with king size beds, fantastic heating system and even a heated toilet seat. All food in the restaurant was home cooked, breakfasts were plentiful with hot options and the evening menu, although small, had several delicious Japanese dishes and I think we tried them all. The games room downstairs has loads to occupy the kids (and adults!) football table, table tennis, pinball machines and large TV and video. The addition of a free laundry room with washers and dryers was a bonus.||Overall we couldn't fault this hotel and couldn't pick out any individuals as everyone was brilliant, might even be tempted to go back...
