We had a fantastic stay at Landhaus Dancru Netz. There was a bit of difficulty getting in touch with the hosts before we arrived (coming from Canada), as we are cheap and didn't want to pay for the long distance call. The website let's you submit a message, like an email, but I never got a response.
For location, it's pretty good. Echoland has gear rentals and restaurants galore. That being said, it is VERY busy, so dinner reservations are strongly recommended. If you don't have a reservation, your best chance is to stand outside the restaurant before it opens (about 10-5 minutes) so you can ask for a table right away. The ski hill buses are free and they all stop along the main drag, close to Dancru. The Hakuba Valley Shuttle which goes to all ski hills is a bit further away, about a 10 min walk with gear (but downhill!). The bus system, while not as frequent as we would have liked, is really good about sending extra buses if everyone cannot get on.
The hotel has everything you will need; drying room for gear, two onsens in the basement for showering and soaking, and larger common room for breakfast every morning with a wood burning fireplace. The rooms were just spacious enough for 2 adults. The rooms have radient floor heating, which was great.
The hosts were supportive in assisting us with making dinner reservations; we picked the restaurant, and they messaged them to find out availability. When we left, they gave us a ride to the Happo Bus Terminal (for a nominal fee). We do not speak Japanese, so Google Translate came in very handy.
We stayed here for the entire time we were in Hakuba, and would...
ย ย ย Read moreI stayed in the two story chalet and found it very comfortable. The couple that owned the hotel at the time were so nice and helpful. They did not speak fluent English but communicated very well.||The chalet has two levels. The first level had a table, chairs, tv, kitchen and huge bathroom. The upstairs had futon beds (very comfy after a day of skiing). ||In the main building (which I think is like a bed and breakfast style, there is a bar, restaurant and free internet. ||The hotel is conviently located in Echoland which has lots of restaurants, a convenience store, and lots of ski rental places.||There are free shuttle buses to all the ski resorts. The bus stop is located at the end of the road, about 100 meters from the hotel. ||Best way to get to the hotel would be to either catch the train to Nagano and then the bus to Hakub a station, and then a taxi to the hotel. Or a train straight to Hakuba station (need to change at Matsumoto station), and then a taxi to the hotel. The taxi from Hakuba station costs about 1300 yen. ||I highly recommend the chalet. The access to the ski resorts is excellent, and it is located right in the centre of echoland village. It is also great having a kitchen...
ย ย ย Read moreLiked - The Standard Twin was spacious enough to fully open two medium size luggage. It has also a basin where you can brush your teeth in the room without the need to head out. The floors are also heated and you can adjust the temperature.
The toilets were well maintain even though it is shared. The most unexpected feature that we enjoy most of our stay is the onsite onsen. They have two private onsen of different size.
They have an onsite dry room for shoes/gloves as well as your ski/SB equipment.
It is located a short 2 min walk to the main echoland street where they are plenty of good food. The only thing you wish for after a long day of ski/sb is to find food nearby. The main street has everything from ski/sb rental to convenience store and food. There are also free shuttle bus to various ski resorts within 2 mins walk from the accommodation.
This hotel has discount cards for both the ski/sb equipment rental and ski passes for selected stores/ski resorts.
Disliked ยท The beds are abit hard but after a full day of ski/sb, i guess you will be able to sleep anywhere. No towels and toothbrush provided. It comes with a fee if you...
