Lovely hotel, very pleased with my stay here! It’s just in front of the castle and you have the subway nearby if you want to visit other popular places (I walked most of the time to better explore the city, and since the sidewalks are very large and flat, you can easily walk even though the city it very big). I especially enjoyed the kindness and politeness of the staff, both at the reception and at the restaurant. Also, the hotel has only 25 rooms, I believe, so it’s not super crowded, and the staff recognises you right away. My room was very modern and comfortable, and it was always very clean. I loved the bathtub and the the toilet was also super modern (it opened automatically, had the heated seating, etc). The big windows were also beautiful and the commands to operate the shades worked perfectly. The only thing is since it’s facing the castle/street, you can hear some noises from the outside, so maybe bring some earplugs (I always use them for sleeping because any noise bothers me, so I might be too sensitive, but bring them nonetheless). At breakfast, you have to tell them in advance at what time you’ll be eating so that they can have the table ready (I usually gave a time interval like between 8:00-8:30), and you have three menu options (well being, which I chose, Japanese and singular pancake). The Well Being was perfect. I also ordered in-room dining and it was great, as they had healthy options like grilled chicken, soup and an excellent fruit salad (no easy to find fresh fruit in restaurants, so I was craving for some and was happy to find they had the option). There’s no gym at the hotel, the property is not too big, but you’ll do plenty of exercise visiting everything Kyoto has to offer 😊 You can do some stretching in your room as it is big enough. I would definitely come back and recommend this...
