This was the nicest place I stayed at in all of Japan and I regret not staying longer! This check in and out process here is all done on the phone with no need for a front desk but when I needed help, the lady at the front was so kind and she helped me do the check in online with her limited English! She was the sweetest lady ever and she put up with my terrible Japanese ! God bless her !!!! It’s situated in a neighborhood and we really felt like we lived in Kyoto with our walk back and strolling down a neighborhood alley instead of next to a busy street and high rise buildings! Lady at the front desk is there for cooking in the back small things you can purchase, she cleans the front relaxing lobby. Really just the most kind lady ever, but I watched her have to deal with rude guests trying to speak to her in English and then getting frustrated with her for not understanding them - that’s rude, tourists are so privileged to expect someone, from an entirely different country with a different language, from them to understand them! LEARN A LITTLE BIT OF JAPANESE AND HELP YOURSELVES INSTEAD OF BEING RUDE TOURISTS!!!! Moving on - She upgraded my husband and I for our honeymoon and it was seriously the nicest nicest NICEST place I think I’ve probably EVER stayed at !!!!!!!!! I love this place !!!!! The atmosphere is just so homey, and I think that’s just what I prefer better than the big places with crazy slow elevators that take 15+++ minutes to arrive at your floor ! I can’t wait to come back and stay again and do not believe ANY of the one star reviews ! They’re so on top of it here regardless of the zero interaction and high tech check in and...
Read moreStayed here for the Obon weekend and it was the stay I enjoyed the most in my 2,5 weeks in Japan. The room was quite big for japanese standards and the price was more than fair with about 28€ per person a night. We felt really comfortable staying here - 2 beds, a couch, a small refrigerator and a ventilation unit that was really quiet - the loudest level equaled people talking with a very low volume among others. There were 2 baths - one with just a toilet and the other one with a shower.
They also had a place where we could lock our luggage before checking in and after checking out (checkout at 10am - usable until 5 pm).
Location wise the bus stop is really close (3min walk, the 2 train station take around 8-10min). Especially the bus can get really crowded when its rushhour as a lot of people from the castle are heading for it. With public transport a trip to the main station takes around 20-25min.
I should mention I didnt see a lot of staff as it felt like they were trying to keep personal to a minimum but that wasnt an...
Read moreLocation is pretty central in Kyoto. So going to Inari or Arashiyama is going to be 40 mins to an hour. The walk to train stations range from 5 to 10 mins so it's pretty close by. Bus stop is right outside in the main road. It's right next to a small shrine and Nijo castle which is nice. You check in and check out on your phone there is a QR code in the front desk and in your room. Service when checking in was alright they did the bare minimum. Rooms were not cleaned everyday. The rooms are more on the spacious side. There is a free laundry room with 3 washer and dryer combination machines and free laundry detergent which was nice. It does take 2 to 3 hours to fully wash and dry. The showers are great, spacious and perfect water pressure. It was a full on wet room with a shower and bath tub. Overall enjoyed the experience. Beds are on the harder side but better than...
