Chidoriashi — Restaurant in Kyoto

We had an absolutely delightful and delicious meal here. As soon as we walked in the door staff and customers gave us a very warm welcome. Our 4 course meal of delicate flavors and quality ingredients was wonderful and the price was very reasonable (we spent 13,000 yen for four people and the meal included a very nice serving of sashimi). Food was made with love and care. Even the departure greeting was very warm right until we walked out the door. A very memorable evening.

Update: I have been back on return trips to Japan and they remembered my earlier visit. Lovely people and wonderful food. Both times we just followed their recommendations and enjoyed...

Food was good, prices not adequate.

Especially the fish dishes were really good, the rest was rather average. Service was really nice, so everything seemed okay until we got the bill: As the menu did not exist in english, we relied on the staff‘s recommendation. Some tough pieces of chicken without any side dish turned out to be 1,300 ¥. The small appetizers, which we did not order and therefor took for free, were charged with 800¥. In the end we had by far the most expensive dinner in Kyoto and left the place even a bit hungry.

Advise: if you are not Japanese, ask for the price of any item they serve you. Or chose one of the many excellent and cheap...

We just stumbled in because Google directed us to our first choice for dinner based on reviews, and we discovered ourselves in front of... a dentist's office. Language was a minor barrier, but between Google Translate and some creative charades, we managed to order several rounds of food and drink. Across the board, everything was high quality and absolutely delicious. Friendly, patient staff and a great atmosphere combined to make this a top-tier experience. Would definitely come back if we ever get back to this...
