For those staying over a holiday, the private kitchen and nearby grocery store enables you to eat when restaurants are closed. We had a modern, cozy unit with plenty of closet space, a few hangers, a washing machine, 2 beds, heater, TV, kitchen, cutlery, cookware, cutting board, colander, dish ware, dish soap, sponge, microwave, toaster, fridge, plenty of shoe storage, private bathroom, tub, body soap, shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, bath towels, hand towels, toothbrush sets, vacuum, and a balcony with one pole to dry laundry.
It’s a super convenient location as it’s walking distance to: Nishiki Market Kyoto International Manga Museum Subway station Bus stations Tons of restaurants, cafes, and izakayas
The neighborhood is super clean and quiet. You can see locals playing with kids in the playground, older kids playing soccer, and cute shops. We really felt like we were at home instead of a distracting tourist location.
Tip: The sink attached to the top of the toilet is a real sink you can use to wash your hands Kyoto’s coin lockers only accept 100 yen coins. The convenient stores and cafes nearby don’t exchange coins, so I suggest that you collect these coins as you make...
Read moreWe had a traditional room, which means sleeping on the floor, low table and chairs. Ut was actually a, great experience and I did sleep well! The room was just big enough for 2 persons, it was very clean. You had your own microwave, toilet, bathroom, fridge and airco. There are a few supermarkets nearby (7-eleven, familymarkt) and even the subway. About 5 minutes walking from the guesthouse there is a shopping district (Nishiki market). Other tourist places are walkable as well, Gion, Kamo river, Pontocho and a shrine.
Cons about the guesthouse: we had a two person room, but only one key. Which means we can't really travel alone (you can't go enter the building without a key). There was also no coin laundry, so you can't do your laundry.
Through our 4 days stay we haven't seen the host. In general we enjoyed our stay and would recommend Guesthouse Mi Ya Ba to other foreigners that are looking for a...
Read moreIts a clean, very central located guest house in Kyoto. 5 min walk to U station. You let yourself in with a provided code to a post box that contains the roomkey. Read the email instructions. Took us some time to get the combination right. The rooms are clean, good space if you rent one of the bigger ones. TV is missing. If you want a towel change, you have to pay for it, reasonable. Around the guest house lots of nice food and store options. Supermarket with international sortiment 2 min. Playground outside for kids is close, 5 min. You are not allowed to park bicycles within the house. Thats a bummer because you can explore Kyoto by bike pretty good. We stayed over a week, didnt see the owner at all. Its kept all very...
