Umeya reveals the true color of Kyoto to me! Its location attracts me the most, which is at the artistic Nishijin district with cool traditional shops and great vibes, away from the bustle touristic areas but with metro station just around the corner. The hundred-old Kyōmachiya house is well-preserved with Kyoto spirits and also well-renovated with Taisho Roman style. I'm particularly fond of its decoration of Japanese antiques, such as vases (with nice seasonal flowers) and tea pot. The single room I stayed for five nights was tidy and comfortable with an awesome Japanese view! Above all, Umeya's gardens were amazing, so full of lives, where I enjoyed sitting there to read or just quietly appreciating the nature. Lastly, I'm really thankful to all the friendly staffs there. It is a traditional house so the shower room is quite small, but you get what you pay for as it is extremely affordable to stay. I am a solo traveler and had great experiences with staff.
