Kura Sushi — Restaurant in Kyoto

Fantastic place for sushi with not one but two conveyor belts. One standard where you select the food from the belt and one express where you order the food from your seat. Express belt has the advantage of being freshly prepared. We would have struggled without a Japanese guide since, though there was an English menu, all the instructions and the screen were in Japanese. Would not recommend going in the evening. We went on a Thursday night and it was quite crowded, but we got a seat after waiting 20 minutes which was not that long. Unfortunately, when we tried to order, we kept getting an error message stating that ‘Our kitchen is currently busy’. This meant that we were only able to order 1 or 2 items every 10 minutes, and we had to wait a long time on some dishes before they arrived. This place is definitely not for foreign tourist who do not have a guide. Getting a number for the seats was difficult and understanding how the seating system is impossible unless you know Japanese. There was hardly any food coming down the conveyor belt. And you would see the same plates circling around several times with no new plates being added.
