Sweets Cafe KYOTO KEIZO — Restaurant in Kyoto

Following their ordering rules, I went for the classic Mont Blanc and the Earl Grey Basque cheesecake. If I had to sum it up in one sentence: skip both. The Mont Blanc is extremely sweet—so sweet that the chestnut flavor is hard to notice. Apparently, the Japanese don’t shy away from sugar. There is one small highlight, though: the owner kindly invites you (in Japanese) to step into the kitchen to watch the dessert being assembled. It all happened so quickly that, as an introvert still processing her instructions, I’d barely understood a word before half the work was done. The Earl Grey Basque was simply forgettable. I absolutely loved having a dessert here, as the staff are all extremely kind, and some even spoke a little bit of English. Moreover, they have a really interesting marketing gimmick, where you can watch the pastry chef, make your dessert in the back area. This cafe that I stumbled upon ended up having one of the best Mont Blanc I've ever eaten! I had the lunch set, which came with a meal, a drink and a dessert. Price was around 1600 yen, which was totally worth it! At the back of the cafe you can watch and/or take pictures/videos of the patissiers while they put your dessert that you ordered!
