Fantastic little find in the streets of Gion! We were drawn to this place due to TripAdvisor reviews and were so glad they could take us at 5pm for a quick dinner. They had to have the table back by 6.30 but that didn't bother us! We were just glad to get a space. And boy oh boy was it worth every single cent.we were invited in and they had just washed the floor(this means purifying in Japanese culture) and we were asked to take off our shoes to sit on a comfortable tatmi mat. You could slide your legs in a small space.
Had the best sake so far here and we elected a few dishes from the main menu. The cold tofu was sublime and out of the world. So simple yet so tasty. We had the grilled fish, chicken and wagyu beef. Oh boy, that was done perfectly. Not an extra sliver of fat on the chicken.and bbed was so tasty with just wasabi and soy sauce. We saw another Japanese family having an interesting drink, the server gladly let us sip some and we were blownaway.
The kindness and genuine hospitality blew us away. We will be back again. Thank u once again for such a...
Read moreThis was one of the best (if not the best) gastronomic experiences during our time in Japan. We had the 13.500 JPY set menu, and the young chef surprised us with a 2h fantastic meal, together with some excellent sake pairing.
The meal is based on the Kaiseki concept, which includes soup, fish, meat, hot pots, vegetables and dessert, and all made from seasonal and local ingredients at the chef’s choice. However, in this restaurant the chef serves each plate separately, turning it into a taster menu concept.
From the fresh sashimi, to the delicious fish dishes and the meat hot pot, everything was absolutely delicious. And all of this in such a cozy and friendly environment. We were sat at the counter next to the kitchen, so we also had many interactions with the chef and waiter, and what gentlemen they are!
Can only wish the best for these good people! If you are looking for a special meal in Kyoto (and are willing to pay for it) this is definitely one of the places to go!
It is also important to say that there are vegetarian and...
Read moreAn incredible experience in terms of food, service, and atmosphere. The restaurant is unlabeled in English and unlike the ones adjacent does not have a menu outside. It takes a second to find - just zoom in max on google maps and it'll be clear. It's well worth it.
There dining room is gorgeous. Then menu has great diversity. We choose from throughout the menu and everything was delicious. Recommending especially: the eggplant and the simmered pork.
The staff was so lovely - attentive without being intrusive. We were chatting with the staff and I asked them if they knew of any tofu restaurants. He wasn't sure but later in the meal he returned and had a list he secured from surveying the other members of the team! Excellent.
For those curious/hesitant about price, it's not daunting at all. We shared a few plates, had dessert and a drink each and it worked...
