We stayed for one evening. A 15 minute walk from the train station, the hotel is tucked off a side street - we were actually standing beside it with google maps and didn’t immediately see it. Better signage is warranted. Quiet, smaller hotel. Staff are very polite and speak passable English. In two weeks in Japan, this was by far the tightest space from a room perspective. Other than two single beds, there was virtually no floor space. Had to lay suitcases on bed as no space to store them other than the small hallway by the bathroom. Bathroom was actually a reasonable size, and efficiently laid out. On the plus side, the hotel has two free washer/dryers, and breakfast was included in the room rate. Read moreLocation is good,. Short walk to the river and the side canal draped with blossom! Then a long walk up Ponto Cho - lovely. And a long walk back. But did use buses a lot to downtown and to the station. 4, 17 & 205. Used our Suica, but there is a Kyoto multi day pass that's worth a look. JR Pass is good for the day trip to Nara, Inari or Arashiyama Clean well presented, but the room was small - twin. Good sized mattress, but v little space besides.
