I'm so sad I didn't know about this place several days earlier so I could have gone multiple times. Such an incredible vibe here, amazing food, and an awesome group of people working there. It's located off of a beautiful street and is a pleasure even just getting to.
The food is top notch. Everything from the schnitzel to the felafel was perfectly prepared. I eat this type of food regularly and this was exceedingly delicious and is obviously prepared by people who know their cuisine very well and take pride in providing it authentically and with high quality.
The service couldn't be better. The people there are obviously excited to be there and enjoy what they are doing, which makes the experience that much better for everyone who interacts with them.
Overall, incredible experience. It feels ridiculous to say that an Israeli restaurant was the highlight of our Kyoto trip and one of the key highlights of the overall Japan experience, but it is what it is and more ridiculous things have happened before 😁
Do yourself a favor if this cuisine appeals to you at all and go pay...
Read moreIt was only when I ordered the hummus here that I realised I have never eaten hummus before in my life. Not if this was what hummus was supposed to be like. This was divine - smooth, creamy, subtle, delicate layers of flavour, paired perfectly with quality olive oil and warmed pita. But wait, there's more! The shakshuka was equally flavoured to be savoured, slowly and exquisitely. Who knew I had to come to Kyoto to have the best food of my life? But then I was spoilt, as my hostess agreed to make the eggplant from the other side of the menu. Oh. My. Word! Again, the layers of gentle delicate flavours blended to perfection made this dish a stand out. If only I had had more nights at home in my room around the corner, I would have returned every night possible to eat here, and foregone all other eateries. This food alone is worth the trip to Kyoto. The delightful atmosphere and conversations with the hosts were just another reason to start saving immediately for a return visit. Cannot recommend this...
Read moreWe arrived and were given a room that was stuffed full with two futons side by side (for 3 people), taking up the entire floor area. That night, our heater didnt work so it was freezing. We went during Sakura season and paid about $200/night for our tiny uncomfortable room with an additional cleaning fee and $100 service fee. We booked on Airbnb well in advance.
This is very much a hostel, and a ridiculously overpriced one. The wifi would go out and not work 70% of the time. The shower was so disgusting that me and my friends avoided using it. Underneath the blue foam shower mat was a city of black mold and hair and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. Also the lock on our door looked like it could literally be ripped off with little effort.
Not worth it, even with the good location. The only good thing I have to say is that Nikko and the other staff are super great! Other than that, I would say definitely...
