I've experienced this in many places during my trip.
The lady who told me to wait outside came off as cold, made 0 effort to speak English when I was using a mix of Japanese and English. I barely got any food for the money which I didn't expect.
I just wanted a place to relax because almost anywhere I go in Kyoto, I felt unwelcome, even If I spent money, I was watched as if they were waiting for me to leave. So I was here to try and hopefully find rest.
I sat down to a card of rules. There are so many places in Kyoto like this. I've tried to be graceful and kind with these Japanese people but so many of them have made it difficult during my visit. I simply felt rushed and unwelcome so I scarfed down my 2 bites of food and my small coffee and paid ¥2,000 for a ¥1,600 and made my way to the door because I didn't even want to speak to these people.
But in a last moment of trying to be as kind as I could manage, I at least bowed and said thank you before I left to which they quickly saw I left the money at my table and gave me my change and guided me to the door.

Read moreBeautiful beautiful coffee shop, the architecture is great and the place really feels peaceful. I sat outside and it was really quiet and enjoyable. I got the Kaikado blend hand drip coffee which was delicious, as well as the Karaki mochi. I was able to ask the staff for recommandations and information on the flavors because I am not used to Japanese sweets. The staff was very helpful and I really enjoyed the karaki mochi. Every piece of cutlery is also high quality. I was also able to visit the second floor and take photos, and I really recommend the second floor for colder days or just a another vibe. The sweets + drink set is a bit expensive (around 1600-1900 yen) but you definitely pay for the quality and the interior. It’s a nice way to treat yourself if you have a bit...
Read moreBest iced matcha latte I had in Japan (also one of the most expensive) This was hands down the best iced matcha latte I had during my 5-week trip in Japan — and also the most expensive. I paid ¥1400 for a matcha latte with organic oat milk, which had an extra charge of ¥200 (compared to the usual ¥100–¥150 elsewhere).
The flavor was incredible and the quality really stood out.
The space is beautiful and minimalist, with stunning architecture and a peaceful, calm vibe. They give you 90 minutes to stay, and it’s possible to work on your laptop (no video calls allowed, which helps maintain the serene atmosphere).
You definitely pay for the quality and the design. A perfect place to...
