Sekai no Yamachan (Chicken Wing — Restaurant in Nagoya

Just ate at this location last night. Had a really good experience. The host staff were friendly and very accommodating to English speaking party.

First, you go in to get your name on the waitlist if there’s a line. The host staff speaks some English and will ask if you want smoking or non-smoking. We asked for non-smoking and seated in the back room which well isolated from any cigarette smoke. Our server also happened to be non-Japanese and spoke English which helped with ordering.

We ordered:

-3 orders (15 wings total) of their signature wings -chicken caesar salad -shima hokke (salted grilled mackerel) -French fries with butter soy sauce seasoning -Agedashi tofu (fried tofu in light soy broth)

The chicken wings were tasty but a tad on the salty side. The salad was overdressed and not really a true Caesar salad as an American would expect. The Shima Hokke was the star. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The fish was moist and tasted fresh. I’d order this dish again and again! The fries were fun. Try to imagine powdered butter flavoring mixed with powdered soy sauce flavoring with a hint of sweetness to it. It was a fun dish to try but eventually I preferred the plain fries. The seasoning is provided on a dish so you can adjust to your taste. The fried tofu was standard (in a familiar way) and tasted like at any Japanese restaurant in the US. We had cocktails which were deceptively strong.

We came here because it’s a large building and we were a group of 5 and wanted to try the tebasaki.

The food was good enough; the wings were very peppery and I enjoyed them. The other anju / drinking snacks were similar to usual pub dishes.

At first the service was good and the hosts let a group of 5 squeeze into a 4person booth and then some customers gave us their extra table.

But later the service was not great. Our group members could speak English, Korean, and some Japanese but the waiter (not Japanese) couldn’t understand us well. So, we ordered based on photos and she brought the wrong foods. But there was no way to fix the situation because she didn’t...

The food was genuinely good—fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. Each dish arrived piping hot and tasted just as expected, showcasing the quality of the ingredients. What stood out even more was the speed of the service. Despite the restaurant being busy, our orders were taken promptly and brought to the table quickly, which kept the meal flowing smoothly without any frustrating waits.
