Had a decent stay at the Garner Osaka Honmachi Midosuji, shortcomings notwithstanding. Hotel is fairly new, having opened earlier this year, remodeled from a previous property so everything looked fresh and clean. My room was ready upon early arrival at 10 AM, so that was awesome and greatly appreciated 🙂 Got 300 points for welcome amenity as IHG Platinum elite. The room itself was small with barely enough space in between the queen-size bed and the walls on the sides, which was fine for one person but would be more challenging for two (though I did see two people together in rooms so they managed.) Bed was very comfortable and liked the charging outlets right next to it plus the clock. There was barely any room for my luggage (did not fit under the bed) but was able to put it on the floor close to the door. The view out the window was terrible as it faced another building with barely any space in between. Did not like that they only have 15 TV channels and none in English, even CNN was voice-translated into Japanese. The room is so small that there is no closet, instead there's a bar on the wall with three hooks but installing more hooks would be an improvement. The bathroom was tiny but functional and loved the non-foggable mirror though beware if you have mobility issues as the bathtub was high at knee level so it was like an obstacle sprint to get in and out plus the bathtub needs a safety bar attached to the wall to grab unto to prevent falls 😤 Loved the mini-fridge and slippers in-room; other amenities like pajamas and toiletries were available for free in the lobby. There's a room setup called Social Hub opposite the lobby with tables and chairs with a microwave, complimentary coffee/tea, and a small pantry called Market Place with some food/beverages for sale at reasonable prices. There is also free drinking water in the Social Hub (no in-room water bottles), for which you need your own container or you can buy a Garner-branded tumbler or get it for free if you follow Garner on Instagram. There are also kettles in the hallway that you can borrow to bring into your room if you want hot water. Free little snacks are available from baskets in the afternoon. During the month of August, they had free shaved ice in the Social Hub that you could make yourself from a machine with different flavored syrups to choose from, which was a nice touch. Wi-Fi worked great. There's a laundry room in the lobby (400 yen for each washing and 100 yen for each drying.) There's no on-site restaurant but you can request a bento box breakfast for 1,500 yen though there are many food options nearby and others a short metro ride away. The closest metro stations are at least a 5-6 minute walk. Staff were very nice. No pool or exercise room. Overall, a good 3.5 value for the price so...
Read moreStayed here at the end of Nov for 2 nights for the end of our trip and I couldn't have been more dissapointed.||||We did store luggage successfully on arrival and this was moved to our room for us once it was ready, which was nice. This was the only thing about our stay which was good.||||They no longer offer free Ramen or ice cream as mentioned in older comments. I didn't bank on this so I was ok when they advised they had stopped this, it would just have been a nice touch.||||No more Handy. For those who don't know, this is a useful smart phone that can be taken out of the room. This was actually the main reason I chose this hotel over others. I researched hotels with this Handy before booking, I asked where it was after finding it missing from the room and was told they stopped this at the end of Aug 19. No notice given and nothing could be done. Advised them how unhappy I was and I got a oh sorry, ha ha ha.||||The room itself was dusty, no milk in the room for the coffee sachets and the bathroom has an unnecessary steep step to get into. There was also a frosted window, which was not advertised.||||Breakfast was basic but ok and basically what you would expect for the price. There was a coffee machine offering a mocha but it just chucks out filtered coffee, when I asked what was going on, they made out I kept pressing the same button so gave up.||||The location was good for a walk around and a short walk to the nearest station I think it was around 30 mins from Osaka castle and around the same to Dotonbori area, which pretty much covers everything there is to do in Osaka.||||For those of you reading and saying 'what do you expect for a cheap hotel' the answer is, a clean room with amenities as described when payed for. This is not what I found at this hotel, there are cheaper hotels with great reviews. I chose this one because if a Handy...
Read moreThis hotel is a repurposed hotel by IHG group as their new launch of hip hotel. Essentially old business hotel Japanese style minor touches up to look hip.. 3 Garner located very close to each other. Make sure you choose the correct one. If you fancy to go Umeda, Dotoburi etc this is closest to the red line of all 3. Three blocks down you will be at Hommachi station exit 1 for red line. I stayed 2 of the 3 hotels. This is the middle size. I like this more as it is quite near to the station, not that packed with folks and much quieter. Community corner at level one that serve free coffee and tea. The coffee although by UCC simply cannot make it. Just pay 1USD go convenient shop any corners, you get better coffee.. Room essentially fits one comfortablely while 2 will be a squeeze but manageable if both doesn't mind. Good for the price to value ratio. Last thing is , this is an IHG hotel, English is not that hard a issues as compared to local hotels. Most staff are...
