Birupaku — Hotel in Shizuoka

Starting with the pros:||- Very friendly and helpful staff who tried their best even if it’s not easy for them to communicate in English and we don’t understand Japanese.||- Good location in a walkable distance from both Shizuoka station and Shin-Shizuoka station. Endless choice of restaurants and many shops around.||- Spacious room, with separate living area with tatami.||The negative:|- Below standard cleanliness for any hotel I’ve stayed in in Japan. Mold was starting to build in the grout in the bathroom and spider webs on the ceiling.||- There was a faint but constant smell of sewers in the room, despite the multiple air filters and diffusers that were already installed. ||- It was a surprise to me that it’s not a conventional hotel. The rooms are scattered across several buildings. This was not a problem in itself but it was very difficult to find the entrance to the reception lobby, which was located in the basement level of a separate building. ||Overall, I was quite disappointed with the stay. A lovely large and clean apartment (Cosmo 402) in a very convenient location. Close to Shizuoka station north exit, Tullys just downstairs, Ichiran & other eats very nearby and near departmental stores. Great for family of 4. The instructions provided to find the reception were clear and helpful. Reception staff were very polite and helpful. We arrived earlier than check-in time and they transported our luggage to the apartment while we wandered around the area. There was a large bath tub and sink. Amenities provided were also good, good hotel standard. Small minor points were the lack of counter space to put toiletries, and a flight of stairs to lug the luggage down. Highly...
