I found the most hassle free route to the hotel from NRT airport was the Keisei Access Line, direct from the terminal to Mita Station - from here it was a three minute walk up a quiet road to the hotel. Unfortunately around 1:30pm there was no room available but the hotel held the bags while I went for a wander. The lobby was bright and spacious, with a bar and cafe. There’s plenty of seating available (not just in the cafe) and the reception staff were friendly and fluent in English. Other than the inability to check in early first impressions were certainly positive.
Later it took just a few moments to complete check in and I was explained the facilities of the hotel. My luggage had already been taken to the room and there was never a need to wait more than a few seconds to be served by a lift.
My Superior Double room was on the 16th floor with brilliant views over the East of the city. I’d been prepared for a small room but was surprised with the space available. Both sides of the bed were easily accessible, there was loads of storage, a large wardrobe in the entrance area, plus a built in sofa in front of the window, great for admiring the view. The decor was clean and modern with units at both sides of the bed, with electric sockets and lamp. Each side also had controls for the lighting in the room. The mini bar was well stocked and there was a glass-fronted cabinet with other drink options, snacks and glasses, illuminated beautifully. The air-conditioning was effective and not too loud. The TV was a good size but lacked any UK channels with CNN being the only English language channel.
The bathroom was disappointing because it wasn’t quite up to the same modern feel as everywhere else. The white fittings and shower felt dated but was clean still. Everything worked well, with the shower coming hot instantly and good power, the bath filled quickly and was comfortable and the digital functions on the toilet were extensive. There were plenty of toiletries in small bottles provided as well as a bar of soap. The towels were a harsh and felt old which was a real shame.
Within the room there was every amenity imaginable provided. International adaptors for electric sockets, pyjamas, slippers, gowns, stationary, full guide to the hotel services (although more detail on dining options would have been good). The bathroom had toothbrush, shaving equipment, hairdryer etc - I couldn’t think of anything which was missing!
Sleep quality was incredible and there was no noise from the corridors or outside. The lighting in the room was cosy and suitable for all moods, including a night light. Housekeeping always observed the ‘do not disturb’ light and proactively came back later in the day if needed. They always did a thorough job, leaving two bottles of water each time.
The residents lounge on the 14th floor provided a nice retreat with sofas and armchairs inside, as well as tables and chairs in an open courtyard. It is open 24x7 and offers free tea / coffee plus alcoholic drinks for a charge. There were no snacks available, but small plates could be ordered from the member of staff on duty. A TV showing some world news would have been a nice addition, plus maybe some quiet background music to add some atmosphere, but otherwise it was a nice facility.
The bar and cafe in the lobby area was nice, offering lunch time deals as well as smaller meals in the evening. Decor was nice, tables were large and everything was clean. Food was served quickly although the prices of drinks were a little on the high. Room service wasn’t available 24x7 so it was nice that the ground floor continued serving until late in the evening.
Overall it was a fantastic base for a few days in the city. A quiet location and easily walkable to many sights, with transport connections on the doorstep. All the staff could speak English and it was modern. It could pass for a five-star hotel and had it had a proper pool and bar would obtain it easily. I recommend...
Read moreIncredible! I've been staying here since I arrived in Japan/Tokyo and will continue to for a few more days. It's been excellent so far!
The service is impeccable and what you would expect from Japan. The rooms are very fairly priced and have amazing views. Though the space you get is pretty small, but definitely adequate and comfortable if you are solo.
The rooms have all you would need, including water boiler and other amenities, and a mini bar that, while containing very few items (beer, tea, sparking water, and juice only), is basically the only hotel room bar I've seen that isn't insanely overpriced.
The location is also good, being next to major train stations, specifically Mita. Although not the closest to major locations, like Rappongi, Akihabara, or Shinjuku, it's close public transportation to get there if you're willing to make the commute time sacrifice.
Room service is good, and you pay at checkout. There are also other benefits, like a 24-hour coffee machine, a gym, and a bar and restaurant.
Unfortunately, it's been difficult to get a spot at the restaurant so far, and the gym is lackluster to the point where I didn't feel like it was worth using, with only a few treadmills and a single stationary machine (no weights at all from what I could tell).
Overall, would highly recommend so far and would definitely consider going to again, and probably will on my next visit to Japan! Will continue to update this review if there is anything else to add during my stay, hopefully...
Read moreOur stay at The Celestine was absolutely exceptional! The hotel is beautiful and was welcomed relief after a long flight from New Zealand and then making our way through Tokyo to get there. An oasis of luxury, calm and serenity.
The hotel staff, led by General Manager, Mr Onodera, were all so professional and helpful. Although I can speak Japanese, I think most of the staff also spoke english. They went above and beyond to ensure our stay was memorable and we felt extremely well taken care of.
The room was beautifully decorated and was ample size for my mother and myself, with all the expected offerings of a good hotel - coffee, tea, toiletries, pyjamas and very comfortable beds. The decor in the room was beautiful as was the artwork throughout the hotel. There is a lovely lounge with access to an outside courtyard which would be perfect to sit in during the day and relax after sightseeing around the city. The lobby bar area is equally relaxing and the breakfast had plenty of options for both Japanese and Western-style.
It's a short walk from Tamachi station, connected by the very convenient Yamanote Line but if you have extra large luggage and don't want to walk, then it's just a short taxi ride.
We were sadly only staying for one night and we wished we were there longer. The Celestine is my new favourite hotel and with a sister hotel in Kyoto I will definitely include both in my itinerary for my next trip to Japan. I highly recommend and I look forward to...
