DON’T BOOK THIS HOTEL! We stayed at Lang Hotel Ueno near Ueno Station on June 12, 2025, and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. The first room we were given had a strong and unpleasant odor—a mix of cigarette smoke and mold. We immediately informed the front desk, but the response was dismissive. They claimed the smell was caused by the previous guest and did not take responsibility. No sincere apology or effective solution was offered. After repeated requests, they reluctantly agreed to provide a “cleaning,” which turned out to be just spraying two types of air freshener in the room. The underlying smell remained.
In addition, the bed linens did not appear clean, and my friend experienced an allergic skin reaction shortly after lying down. We were concerned that the bedding had not been properly sanitized.
We also contacted hotel management hoping to resolve the issue or request a refund for the remaining nights. However, both the front desk and the head office avoided responsibility and kept referring us back to each other. No meaningful resolution was provided, and our refund request was ignored.
Overall, this was one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve had in Japan. We were extremely disappointed by the poor hygiene, lack of accountability, and unprofessional service. I would not...
Read moreHeads-up traveller!!! Questionable management and service. Booking the hotel on Agoda in 2 weeks, but found out immediately that I would plan to book my stay at Kyoto, but not Tokyo. I contacted the trip agent immediately to cancel, no reply. Then I wrote directly to the hotel with 24 hours and explained what happened, hoping that it could give the full cancellation or I am happy to pay a reasonable compensation. As a first time visitor to Japan, I mistakenly messed up- between “Tokyo” and “Kyoto”. However, the hotel management asked to charge me the mandatory 70% cancellation. I know it is my mistake, but even for any booking platform there is 24 hours cooling period or so. And 70% cancellation fee from 2 weeks in advance seems to be ABUSING to me and any international traveller— and the fee is not cheap. And this hotel is kind new and mainly target for international travellers. So please think twice if you are planning to stay at...
