Don’t hesitate just book and go and be amazed. I found this from Hearty Inn, Japan Hotel & Ryokan website as recommended by Sawayanoya (at first we’re trying to book here but they’re already full). Ryokan Sansuiso is quite off the beaten path but you will never regret staying here. From query, to booking, and stay, they were very helpful and accommodating. For 10,000yen a night a room for 2 with private bath (newly renovated bathroom with all the modern amenities you will surely love). I sent them an email directly as there’s no availability from any booking sites and thankfully we managed to get a confirmation. This is a family owned ryokan, modest, and very clean. A little bit hard to find in the beginning because it’s in the middle of modern buildings and myriad of shops and restaurants. It’s a 10-minute walk from Gotanda Metro Subway Asakusa Line A5 exit 1 and a 5 minute walk from JR Gotanda station. Tip: look for Remy shopping centre turn right and when you see Family mart opposite Proud Tower, walk straight and you will see the signage to Ryokan Sansuiso and the place itself as it’s very notable, the only ryokan in the middle of high-rise buildings. As we arrived early, the owner let us shower and changed and advised us to return by 12nn as the room will be ready by then. They also took our luggage and very thoughtful when we returned at night the luggage was already in the room and we noticed that they also clean the wheels of our luggage. Every night, they will prepare hot water and green tea with some sweet crackers. The room has a tv, small fridge, and the WIFi worked nicely. They have only 2 Japanese rooms with private bathroom. The rest are with shared bathrooms. Very quiet and sleeping on tatami was very nice, the ac is new and with modern switches for the room and bathroom temperature, though sometimes you can hear the sound of the railrack at night but it didn’t bothered us and all the guests staying in this ryokan|were all considerate with each other. The room is sufficient for two but I guess not with big luggages. There is no restaurant, breakfast, no common area, a lobby or a reception but it’s okay - your shoes are properly stacked and slippers are always ready - those little things. Love how they clean and prepare the room each night when we arrived from a long-day trip. This is a place we can definitely recommend if you would like to experience a traditional Japanese room that is not very costly. The whole family bid us goodbye...

Read moreIf you’re visiting Japan, you have to stay at least one night at a Ryokan! It’s wildly different than anything you’ll find in western culture, but a great experience.
Rooms are very clean and cozy. Restrooms and showers are dorm-style, so there are some slight concerns about cleanliness, but the staff keeps them very clean at all times!
The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. They’re very nice to chat with and knowledgeable of the area if you ask them any questions.
The area is excellent. It’s very quiet with a convenience store located right next door. There is a cozy area to relax by the water right in front of the convenience store as well. The train station is maybe a 5 minute walk, but that’s not bad at all.
The last thing I’ll add is that while you have your own room, there are potentially many other travelers staying in the same building. It’s very quiet and the walls are thin, so you’ll want to be respectful to those around you. I didn’t have any issues with this...
