I had originally booked this hotel for three nights as it was relatively cheap in comparison to other hotels in Tokyo. Upon arrival, the walk was 10-15 minutes from Shinjuku station (depending on which platform you exit), and we discovered that the walls in our room were dirty. The part that really turned me off this hotel was the mouldy smell coming from the bathroom and the dust that circulated the room when the air conditioner was on (as it is an older style secured into the wall). This caused me to have a sleepless night as I was coughing non stop. Even when we turned off the air conditioner, an unpleasant smell remained. My sister and Mother also had severe headaches caused from the dust. My family decided that we would not stay the remaining 2 nights, and so sought to get a refund and book another clean hotel. All of the front desk staff were very helpful, however the assistant hotel manager was extremely rude and had no sympathy for us when we explained our circumstances and that we were seeking a refund. He was somewhat aggressive and arrogant in his response and informed us that if we wanted a refund we would have to call Expedia (the agent through which I booked). My family and I went off to have breakfast, then came back to the front desk to get our refund. The assistant manager saw us and apologised and then continued to talk to his staff in Japanese about our experience, and to tell them to speak to Expedia on my behalf although I requested to speak myself. This apology was not genuine. Overall,I found this hotel to be extremely dirty and the service from management could be much better. The front desk staff were extremely kind and patient so we are thankful for this but will not be...
Read moreCons: The internet is terrible. we can barely surf the web for text let alone research YouTube for vacation videos. Rooms are old and carpet is filthy. I posted some photos of teh carpet. Dare not walk around without house slippers on. TV is at least 20 years old. My computer monitor is larger than the TV, lol. Bathroom extremely tiny. shower curtain has a musky mouldy smell. Sound insulation is very poor. You can hear people talking and vehiclea passing from the road below. Breakfast pastries need variations. Can't eat plain croissants everyday. Pros: House keeping and front desk staff are very helpful and polite. Rooms are big by Japanese standards. Location isn't bad. Its in a quieter part of the neighborhood and there's a Lawson's right opposite the hotel. The breakfast drink selection is good (best were the ice coffee, ice tea, 3 types of juices, and milk). Beautiful rock garden. The old house was under restoration but i can imagine it to be beautiful once completed. Overall this hotel has great potential but it really...
Read moreEven though the hotel isn't the newest, my impression of the 2-week stay is positive. Room: When I first entered the room, the carpet was slightly dirty, but otherwise clean. There is a fridge, kettle, TV and hairdryer. The bathroom is tiny, but the room (single) is spacious. Even enough that I was able to do dance training. The room was cleaned every day, towels were changed and the bed was even made. Wifi worked very well. When I had a problem with a big bug (and I'm very afraid of them), the guy from the staff was very nice and helped me. He didn't speak English, but if he remembers me, I greet him and thank him for his help! Service: Reception staff hardly speak English at all, but matters such as luggage storage were handled in English. Breakfast: Only tiny croissants (no spreads), coffee, tea and cornflakes with milk are available. Very modest. Unfortunately, it's hard to eat enough, so I chose Lawson's breakfast more often. But if someone wants to save money, they can consider it as breakfast.
As a 19-year-old traveling alone, I felt very safe there. There were a lot of foreigners in the hotel, but it was quiet and you could relax after a day of sightseeing. The biggest advantage is the price, because I paid really little for a hotel in the Shinjuku area. It is very close to the Shin-Okubo station, about 5/6 minutes walk. I highly recommend it! And when I come back to Japan, I will definitely choose this hotel again :))
Serdecznie polecam! I jak będę wracać do Japonii to z pewnością wybiorę ten hotel...
