Very disappointed with this hotel service. We got kicked out of our room despite having a valid reservation for the duration of our stay! The manager apparently put us in the wrong room and whilst we were out exploring emptied our room with all our belongings and dumped it in the lobby. When we returned from our long day visiting attractions we were shocked to find all our luggage dumped in the lobby all exposed. Luckily Japanese people are honest! We confronted the manager only to be told that we overstayed our stay initially; it was after an argument that he realised his mistake (ie that he put us in the wrong room or at least that's what he told us). After arguing with my wife over our booking he realised his mistake but said there was no other room available! This caused immense stress on my son and daughter who were tired from the day out and stressed that they have to sleep on the street because it was 9.30pm and we had no idea where else to go to find a room! It was only after a confrontation with the manager and our threats of taking action that he than realised his mistake and went to check the rooms and eventually he found one. The one which we were supposed to be in originally!!! When demanded what compensation he was going to give us for all the stress and frustration he put us through he only said he was sorry!!! Sorry just doesn't cut it for us! Had we not asserted that we were right and had all our printouts and online documents we would have been on the street that night by his actions!!! He even accused my wife by saying our print-out was old and we changed our booking which was not true at all because we had access to our online version which confirmed our booking! My other ratings are a genuine reflection of the location and the hotel; but sadly our experience with the manager was especially terrible and this was the last day we were in Tokyo before having to leave early to Kyoto the next day!!! We love Japan but this experience left us with a very disappointing experience!

"The best hotel in Japan"... far from it, at least that's how the owner advertises it on the hotel's business card. Immediately upon arrival in the rooms and a very cursory inspection of the rooms, we noticed bedbugs on the curtains, between the tatami mats and beddings, and most likely elsewhere. We immediately turned around and left the room and demanded a refund. The owner claimed that the bedbugs were not from his rooms, as he had vacuumed the rooms before our arrival (as if you can get rid of bedbugs by vacuuming...). The only thing that can save this hotel from bed bugs is fire. After a bit of arguing, the owner realized that it was easier to return our money, as if all his money were taken from him. P.S.: just don’t bother

Very conveniently located. It’s a short walk from the train stop, and only 1 away from the Shinjuku stop. Lots of little restaurants all around it. Note that the rooms are quite little compared to American hotels. When you enter, you need to take off your shoes and put them on a locker. You sleep on sleeping mats on the floor. The bathroom is pretty small and can be a bit claustrophobic.

Hanabi Hotel is situated in an excellent location being only a few minutes walking time from JR stations and in close proximity to many restaurants and markets. For tourists looking to set up base while exploring the huge metropolis of Tokyo, I couldn't recommend a more convenient location that is at the same time not as expensive as other districts.

However, the service is not that good. It seems like the entire hotel is run by only one or two people. As a result, there is often no one at the front desk and little options to ask for help as the employee(s) is upstairs working and probably cannot hear you. On our first day, we arrived early a few hours before check in time and asked if we could store our luggage there while we go out and come back later. The gentleman at the front desk acknowledged us but then went upstairs to do something and left us waiting at the front for a good 20 minutes with no idea where he went, if he would come back, or if he wanted us to wait. When he finally came back, he totally forgot we were asking him about luggage storage. To be honest, that totally ruined our morning as we were tired and hungry in a foreign city we just arrived in. When asked how we could get help at the front desk when no one is there, he simply told us to call them (not really possible as foreign tourists).

The room was alright. It was a bit small especially the bathroom but definitely understandable especially in this part of Tokyo. The futons were also very comfortable. The hotel itself is also quite clean. Everyone is required to take off their shoes and store them in lockers at the front.

All in all, Hanabi Hotel is great for its location, convenience, its unique tatami style, and price. However, don't expect excellent service. You are mostly on your own...

The only good thing is the location, close to subway stations + main street with shops & restaurants. The area is gross, the streets full of garbage, a lot of trash bags piled everywhere every morning. The bathroom is unbelievably small! Not a single chair in the room, you should manage to do everything on the floor… the mattresses on the floor not comfortable at all, no cleaning services whatsoever, no changing sheets or beddings in 4 days, they did it only after asking it for many times for 2 days. They ask you to put all your mattresses/pillows/covers out by yourself, and put the new ones by yourself! When I asked about cleaning especially the bathroom he was so surprised, he came in, took toilet paper and wiped a small corner of the bathroom’s floor ONLY!!! There is a small vacuum in the room, I used it to clean the tatami, but the vacuum itself is super gross! Same for all the old appliances in the very small corner “kitchenette”. I don’t recommend this...
