I booked a room several months in advance thinking it was a hotel. Despite appearances it is a hostel, NOT a hotel. I paid $743 AUD for 5 nights, 3 people.
The MANY bad things about this place: There are no private bathrooms. There are communal sinks, showers and toilets. The showers are in disrepair. Broken shower doors, broken shower head holders, wall film is peeling off. If you stay here I strongly recommend you shower at the local bathhouse (Mannenyu) instead. The sinks are in front of the showers and toilets in a very narrow hallway. An awkward shuffle occurs when someone is using the sink and you need to use the toilet. Communal microwave and kettle. Accessibility is atrocious. Only a single flight of stairs even has a handrail. There isn't an elevator to help you carry you luggage up the stairs. Power outlets are awkwardly placed in the room. You will need to use an extension cord if you want to charge and use your phone in bed if you are sleeping in a top bunk. There's no safe to store valuables. The TV does not have a HDMI input, so you can't connect your laptop or switch if you want a bigger screen. And the worst part of it all - the soundproofing. It is completely and utterly terrible, you can hear anything in the building. Your nextdoor neighbours, when someone's going up the stairs, using the toilet, ambulance sirens. It was very difficult going to sleep when there were rowdy neighbours next door for a night.
The few good things about this place: The internet is very fast and consistent. The location is quite good. JR station very short walk away, Don Quixote next door. Amazing bathhouse close by. The rooms were clean. There is a fridge in the room.
The soundproofing and communal facilities would make me give a 2 on this review, but the misleading advertising has me give a 1 star on principle....
Read moreWe needed a place to crash and accommodate 5 people. We got exactly what we looked for. There is no lift, kitchenette but they provide kettle and microwave. A small fridge in our room. 4 toilet and 4 showers. None of them is broken or unusable by the time we checked in. We stayed for 7 nights. The bed was comfortable enough to crash in. They provided sets of towels and dental kit but too bad to be used the same sets provided in the entire duration of your stay. Though i was told there is a coin laundry in the next building. Gladly the cleaner gave us new towels in the mid of our stay.
Location is very good as it is close to supermarket, resto, cafes, laundry you name it, its all around the corner. The street was busy but not noisy at all. So I'm not sure about the other reviews. We didn't experience any disturbing noise.
The internet was fast enough for all your gadgets and devices. Apart from someone remove the router from the plug so we thought there was no internet on the first day of our stay. There is only two outlets shared by the kettle, microwave and the router. Someone kept unplugging it to probably use both kettle and microwave at the same time which is annoying as we lost our connection.
This is a hostel, express check in/out. It was hassle free for us and no stress at all. Apart from the absence of lift so we had to carry 10 luggage up and down upon check out.
Close to Tokyo Kabukicho Tower, if you are to take the limousine bus from Nartia Airport or 13 mins walk from Shinjiku Metro Station. It is technically 1 train away or 1 bus away from...
Read moreChecking in: No clear instructions were provided after payment. Guests are expected to call, but the staff did not speak English. I had to translate for another guest who was lost due to their poor system. The instructions appeared to be copied and pasted, and did not match the room I was allocated.
Amenities: • Ear plugs provided (a nice gesture, but unnecessary in my case).
• Only one small body towel is given for the entire stay. When I asked for a new one they said If you want a clean one, you must pay extra. The alternative will be to wash it yourself. This is not made clear in their policy.
• Cheap slippers that do not fit average-sized adult feet.
• A toothbrush and toothpaste set is provided, but only one for your stay.
• Pillow and quilt are not replaced until you check out.
WARNING: • Curtains are held up by sharp pin-like hooks. These are dangerous, so be very careful.
• The shower head was hanging off its hook. A nail fell out while I was showering, and I had to fix it myself.
• The shower and toilet rooms have insufficient hooks or shelves, meaning your belongings often end up on the floor.
• Cleaning standards are questionable, old body wash bottles were left in the shower for several days. Rat droppings on the windowsill.
Summary: Yes, it’s cheap. But the low cost is reflected in the lack of care, clarity, and basic maintenance. Tokyo House Inn needs serious improvement in communication, cleanliness, and...
