I was traveling to Almaty and was looking for a decent but inexpensive place to stay. Communication continued to be a challenge at check-in and throughout my stay with the front desk as English was not their language of communication. The hotel itself is located on the outskirts of the city, approximately 45mins away from the airport, but within walking distance to many sights and shops including about a 5-7mins walk to the Forum and a 20min walk to Kok Tobe. ||From the outside, the hotel is a very tall building and looks like a converted Soviet-esque building that was remodeled into the Holiday Inn Express. Inside, the hotel looks recently updated and newish. ||As you entered the room, on the left was the entrance to the bathroom and straight ahead was the main room. The bathroom was a bit tiny and was more along the European size of the bathroom and contained a toilet, a sink, and a shower. The sink had Dove hand wash and Dove products were also in the shower. The bathroom was decent but tiny and compact. The room itself though was not compact and had enough room to maneuver around and for the luggage. Just next to the door to the bathroom was an open closet and next to the that was a luggage stand with a safe underneath. There was a small nook across from the closet on the other side of the room that contained the iron and ironing board. Further into the room, along the left side of the wall was a table/desk plus chair and the along the wall was the bed with a nightstand on either side. The bed was a decent size and comfortable enough for a good nights sleep. The table/desk was small but big enough to get some work done and there were charging ports and plugs near the desk which were convenient. Across from the bed, along the other side of the wall, was a TV mounted on the wall and underneath was a stand for additional storage, the coffee maker, and complimentary bottles of water. The complimentary bottles of water was a nice touch and each day the bottles were replenished. Overall it was a decent if not compact room; the bed was comfortable and provided a good nights sleep and there were enough charging ports that were easily accessible.||Holiday Inn Express hotels are not full service hotels but they do provide some amenities. This hotel included complimentary wifi, complimentary breakfast, a business center which contained two computers in the lobby, plenty of seating area in the lobby, and a bar area. The wifi was decent and you could connect as many devices as you wanted. The breakfast was complimentary and included complimentary tea and coffee, but the selection was a bit limited and not as plentiful or varied as the one in Warsaw.||Overall, it was an average and comfortable stay at the Holiday Inn Express. Read moreAs a member of your hotel chain and travels all over the world putting up in numerous nights in Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express, I have never been so disappointed. In this trip itself we have put up in your hotels in Xi'an, Lanzhou and Wulumiqi before coming over to Almaty.
My experience in Holiday Inn Express, Seifullin Avenue, Almaty is very horrible. We stayed here for 4 nights on 13, 14, 15 & 16 Sept 23.
On 13 Sept evening, we were checked into room 511. Upon entering the room we noticed defects at door lock and requested for change of room. Receptionist called handyman and we were told cannot be repaired then we were offered by a male receptionist an upgrade to room 814. Within 10 mins, after we have unpacked the same person called our room to ask us to pack and go to the reception again to swap room citing 814 was already assigned another person. Although we told him we have unpacked and about to take shower after a long day of traveling, he insisted we pack and go to the reception, without at least offering to send new room keys to us while we pack. Finally we were given room 528 for our first night stay.
On 14.9.23 we moved to twin room 604 as per our booking.
On 15.9.23, without us asking, a female receptionist told us we were offered room upgrade although we said we were alright with the room we had and wanted to leave for Shymbulak. She kept saying no issue as we can pack and keep luggages in receiption then check into the upgraded room when we came back. At around 7pm+ when we were back and were happily expecting the upgraded room, we were shocked to be told by the same female receptionist that she thought someone else was us and have given the room assigned to us to that person. We ended up on the standard twin room 802.
We were so frustrated. We didn't ask for upgrade and 2 times we were offered and taken back. 1st time, we chose to forgive but it happened 2 times and we couldn't not accept. Don't promise if you cannot deliver.
The 1st time was a joke. 2nd time was a negligence. I wonder how come you didn't check the identity of a person and can mistaken the person for another. I am really sceptical about the safety of your hotel.
Actually both in incidents, your hotel assigned the wrong room to wrong person. What a shame it happens during your 2nd year...
