I stay in a w8de range of hotels, from $8 flophouses to $x00/night 5-star hotels. Overall, I prefer value for money. I'm a cheapskate.
I've stayed in two different hotels in the Pullman chain -- a member of the Accor Group -- because they were the "conference hotel" of conferences that I was attending.
The Pullman Hotels seem to be designed to attract a particular demographic: the nouveau riche. They don't have the understated luxury of the REALLY top hotels. Instead, everything is over the top. Gaudy. Tacky. Tasteless. Pretentious. Most of all, pretentious.
The Nairobi Pullman's menu, from its Dispatches Grill, was a great example. Did it offer Fish and Chips, as you'd expect in a former British colony? Yes, and it was the only exception that I could find, on it menu, the "pretentious" rule. Sadly, by the time it reached my room, both the fish and the chips were cold and soggy. Pretentiousness, combined with poor service, is... awful.
The rest of the menu is a parody of pretentiousness. A simple cheeseburger? Sorry. It has some parody of what a pretentious cheeseburger would be. When delivered, it had... no hamburger patty. Some meat-like strips that I assume were some foo-foo fancy bacon, despite it not tasting at all bacony.
One thing that the Pullman does right: it clearly labels the in-shower bathing products "Shanpoo", "Conditioner", and "Body Wash". Sounds simple, right? But the Marriott fails completely at that simple task, everywhere I've stayed with them.
Generally, the service was quite good. Well-staffed, well-trained, and attentive. No criticisms there (aside from soggy fish & chips).
Bottom line: Stay here ironically at least once, to understand what "pretentious" means when applied to a hotel. But...
Read moreI can only say that there are no words. I admire this hotel and team. Everything is at the highest level. I don’t even know who to call the best. One is better than the other. The Front office and the restaurant just fascinated me. Food and purity of the number at the highest level .All girls under the name Maurin are beautiful in their work. Chef(Henry) if im not wrong, on breakfast he really taking care bout guests. You can write a lot from the General Manager to Moses the director of the restaurant. And another very strong leader in this team is Terry strong attentive
But if you, ask me who is the best of them for you. That is definitely an Evet. I don’t know what position she is now, but I will say how a person has an experience of 18 years in the tourism industry. The minimum should be a supervisor if it is already a supervisor, then it should be a Duty manager .
