We booked a suite. Apparently they have 2 suites one of which is actually a suite and is called a king room. What they gave us was a queen room which they call a suite also but is not nearly as good. Broken shower with no curtain, no safe(although they gave us one later), small balcony, no river view etc. very different from the photos and description they gave us||Further they quoted us 50k kip for a Tuk-tuk but later charged us 70k ki because our flight was an hour late and landed at 9. I had called before hand about the delay and we agreed to 9 pm pick-up at the same price. The receptionist later said that it was 80k Kip because of the night pickup but we were not informed about it earlier. So we agreed on 70k. It’s not about $2 but the principle of it. We got our own tuk-tuk for 40k on return during daytime. Can’t imagine night to be more than 60k for which you may actually be able to get a proper taxi. The manage of the hotel without asking us booked a cab for us for ride back which we refused. Not sure what he would have charged us. Felt a bit ripped off. |||Filed a dispute with Agoda and 10 days later Agoda is still waiting to hear back from them. Only good thing is the location. Imagine a bathroom in your bedroom with no shower curtain making it all wet.||You are better if staying...
Read moreWe had a wonderful stay here for 3 nights. Would highly recommend! It is an older property with a lot of character.
Pros: Wonderful staff! Very friendly and helpful. Location is excellent, just a short 5-7 minute walk to the night market. A couple of doors down from the Garavek Traditional Storytelling Theater (very cool). We also watched the morning alms from our balcony. Lovely breakfast included with fresh fruit, eggs, baguette, jam, meats, coffee/tea. If you’re a coffee snob, there are some great coffee shops on the river a couple of minutes away. Very comfy bed!
Cons: Didn’t bother us, but the tub/shower is in the bedroom itself. A bit quirky but no big deal! The fixtures are a bit dated but again, didn’t bother us. Just a consideration if that’s important to you.
Excellent Laotian restaurant around the corner: 1991 Wat Sene Alley Restaurant. Nicest people, great food, great prices.
Excellent wood fired pizza place if you’re craving western food: Popolo Restaurant down the street. Very cold Beerlao IPA…highly recommend!
Will definitely miss this place and...
Read moreA truly EXCELLENT HOTEL. Rooms exquisite and breakfast decent. Birdeye view of the Buddhist Monks passing under the balcony for their alms giving. 2 excellent restaurants on the street - a Lao on the corner in front and Popolo (French-run) awesome Italian. Convenience store in front on hotel also. ||One block inland from the Mekong River and one block down from the main Sakkaline Road. ||Luang Prabang is so far the best Asian city/town I have visited. it has all the dreamy heritage of the French colonial era and the Lao people so decent and caring. ||This is a UNESCO heritage city and this hotel is a great start to discover it and rest peaceful when needing a break. ||Small note: I had a scooter accident on the way back from Kuang Si Falls and needed medical attention when coming back to the hotel. Assistant Manager Sai took care of me taking to the hospital and waiting until I finished. He even paid my fee because I had no cash on me having lost it in the accident. Such forthright decency is a rare thing these days. So book this hotel without...
