The Belle Rive Terrace — Restaurant in Luang Prabang

We stayed here as guests, and while the included breakfast was fine, we thought the Laos dinner was really bad- the worst we had in Luang Prabang. We asked for everything Laos spicy, and nothing was spicy. And even things that were not supposed to be spicy were really bland.

There's a roasted eggplant dip that we ordered here (I think Jeow Mak) - it tasted almost like water. No spice, no smoke, no roasty eggplant flavors. The description of the dish sounded so good we tried it a second time at Tamarind, and it it was infinately better.

We also had two additional fish dishes that were very middling. One them was basically fried talapia pieces, and they served that with a fridge cold tamarind dipping sauce.

Views and service are nice though. Prices are not bad either considering you get real napkins :) .

We would recommend Tamarind and Little Lao Culture...

Unforgettable riverside dining with heartwarming service!

Our visit to The Belle Rive Terrace in Luang Prabang more times was truly special. The location is beautiful, right along the Mekong River — peaceful, scenic, and perfect for a relaxed meal. The food was excellent, full of flavor and beautifully presented.

What made the experience even more memorable was the birthday celebration. I had messaged the owner, who is a foreigner, and he personally coordinated with his amazing staff to organize everything. The team did a fantastic job — warm, friendly, and very well-organized. They even surprised us with a complimentary birthday cake, which was such a thoughtful gesture!

A truly heartwarming experience. Highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy great food, a beautiful view, and genuinely...

Food was phenomenal!!!! Pork laab so flavorful with fresh herbs and lemongrass. One of the best things I’ve eaten in Laos. Seafood and rice cakes with eggplant and tomato dips so good. Yellow curry and sai oua were also incredible!

To improve for a 5 star rating….. the chairs were awkward, sloped backwards, so you can’t lean against them or sit upright. Loud construction trucks on the street and biting black flies (not the restaurants fault). Didn’t appreciate the push for a sightseeing tour by the waiter (not affiliated with the restaurant). You should not solicit patrons of the restaurant as a captive audience.
