3 Nagas Luang Prabang – A Timeless Gem in the Heart of Laos

If you’re looking for a stay that combines rich heritage with modern elegance, 3 Nagas Luang Prabang – MGallery Hotel Collection is the place to be. Nestled in the heart of Luang Prabang, this century-old building, protected under UNESCO Heritage, has been masterfully preserved, offering guests an authentic slice of Lao history with a touch of refined luxury.

Here’s why this property deserves your attention:

Historical Charm

Walking into 3 Nagas feels like stepping back in time. The building’s intricate woodwork, vintage architecture, and serene ambiance reflect the spirit of old Luang Prabang. Staying here is not just about a luxurious experience but also a chance to be part of the town’s rich heritage.

Mornings That Stir the Soul

Start your day with a truly unique experience—the alms-giving ceremony that takes place right in front of the hotel. While this spiritual tradition is a must-see, the early morning chanting and activities can be a bit noisy, so light sleepers might want to prepare accordingly.

Gastronomic Excellence

The culinary experience here is nothing short of spectacular. The breakfast alone deserves applause, with its range of freshly prepared, flavorful dishes that cater to both local and international tastes. Come evening, the set menus are a delight, showcasing the best of Lao cuisine with a sophisticated touch. Pair your meal with one of their excellent cocktails or wines to truly elevate your dining experience.

Evening Bliss

As the sun sets, the magic continues with live saxophone performances, creating a relaxed yet elegant atmosphere. It’s the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring Luang Prabang.

Final Thoughts

3 Nagas Luang Prabang offers an unforgettable blend of culture, cuisine, and comfort. Whether you’re indulging in their exceptional food, sipping a handcrafted cocktail, or soaking in the historic surroundings, this hotel offers an experience unlike any other. A stay here isn’t just accommodation—it’s a journey into the heart of Lao heritage.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely. If you’re planning a trip to Luang Prabang, make sure 3 Nagas is on...

There are lots of hotels to choose from in LP. We chose this one because of the building and the location. ||Pro's are that the alms walk is literally outside the hotel so if you're not good at waking up early, you only need to throw some clothes on and step outside the hotel, unlike some other hotels which are much further away and presumably need a lift to get you to the centre. ||It's towards the quieter end of the town so you can easily walk to the markets and main sights but away from the noise of being closer in. They also have an ice cream stand at the front and offer a welcome ice cream which was very much needed, thank you Linda!||Breakfast was good, we ate in the restaurant for dinner and whilst the mains were ok, the desserts were incredible. I'm still thinking about the banana flambé and coconut ice cream. ||There are also some really good cafes the other way from the hotel that are a bit quieter. The french cafe (separate review, is highly recommended). ||We had room 1 on the ground floor with a little terrace but limited view. The room was lovely and the fresh tea leaves in the room are really special. ||The con's. There are limited amenities, which may be fine for you. You are obviously allowed to use the facilities at the sister sofitel but it was quite far out so we didn't bother. If you're just looking for a couple of nights centrally this is a really good option. ||The only other downside, they were charging $150 US for a return ride to the Kuang Si falls. ||We used 'loca' the Loas equivalent of Uber and used Keo for the trip instead, and also to the airport too. It was much cheaper. I think it worked out as circa $45 and he waited for us. ||Keo's number is +856 20 55 543 311 if anyone wants to book him...

What a lovely boutique hotel, we loved every moment of our stay! Each member of staff was so warm and welcoming, helping us to feel completely relaxed during our stay. The hotel itself offers an authentic experience of traditional Lao style accommodation, with dark wooden architectural features throughout. It is split across three historic buildings each with their own story and one of which used to serve ice cream to the king. For food, the hotel offers authentic local food for lunch and dinner. For refreshments, there is a bar open day and night, serving a wide variety of cocktails and local snacks. Breakfast is à la carte, with both local and international / western options. I particularly enjoyed the Khao Jee Pâté (Bánh Mì) and Lao Pho which are both Lao versions of Vietnamese dishes but deserve recognition in their own right! Another benefit of this hotel is that it is twinned with the nearby Sofitel, allowing guests to take advantage of the restaurant, pool and gym facilities there (and see the cute bunnies) with the help of the free shuttlebus that goes between locations. My only piece of advice for future travellers is to avoid participating in the Almsgiving ceremony where food is offered to the monks of local temples and which is set in the street between the hotel buildings. Unfortunately, this sacred tradition has become extremely commercialised and is full of noisy tour groups, people taking photos and opportunistic street vendors. The monks don't seem to like it and it made us sad to see - I hope the government begins to regulate this ceremony to prevent its exploitation for commercial gain.

This is one hell of an amazing place. 15 rooms. Smacked in the middle of actions. Surrounded by restaurants, Temples and steps away from both the Nam Khan and Mekong rivers. The front line staff are young, eager, professional and are exceptional in dishing out great and sincere service. They take efforts to know our preferences so that they know how to provide us. We felt right at home. Food was in every way delicious although chilli spiciness was certainly toned down to cater for the western tourist palettes. We tried many items on the breakfast menu...the rice porridge, the Phô, the mini Lao baguette with condiments, the croissant...ALL were delicious. My favourite was the home made Lao sausages. Then we visited a place that had reincarnated 3 times as a hotel...Sofitel just to see the place and later had a spa session there. It started as Alila, then Hotel de la Paix and now Sofitel. It’s one magnificently restored place also beautifully manicured. Almost stayed there but decided to stay in the city since it’s our first time in Luang Prabang. We definitely made the right choice staying at the 3 Nagas as the Sofitel felt contrived. Noise was never a concern for us at the 3 Nagas. To expect perfect peace and quiet doesn’t quite gel well with the idea of staying at a smacked in the middle of the ‘city’ antiquated place that has lotsa charm, creaking wooden floors, thin windows, and lotsa history. Sofitel would be the perfect place for peace and quiet.
