The Mekong Riverview Hotel is a gem.
While it might have one of the furthest locations from the town's commercial-centre (although it is a distance of only 1km), it also has one of the most beautiful spots, if not the most beautiful spot, in Luang Prabang, which it capitalises by locating its cafe overlooking the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers. The cafe was a wonderful place to enjoy breakfast, with its precious views a reminder of the overall beauty of Luang Prabang.
The property is well-manicured and beautifully maintained. The public areas and the rooms are furnished in a luxe-local-style that we like. The rooms are well-appointed, and the bed was comfortable. We enjoyed sitting on the veranda everyday taking in the warm weather and the view.
We loved having breakfast, which came with our room rate, at the river-side cafe and found the food delicious. Even though the breakfast buffet had a narrow range, it would suit most travellers’ needs. We had fruit juice, fresh cut fruit, coffee, croissants, toast, and eggs & bacon cooked to order. Aside from breakfast, we also had one lunch at the river-side cafe which was fine.
The staff we encountered during our stay were all lovely and friendly. Those at the front desk helped us arrange local transport as well as restaurant and tour reservations.
One major drawback to the Mekong Riverview is the location of its swimming pool, which is across the Nam Khan River and then a bit of a walk. I suspect the absence of space prevented the owners from building the pool where the hotel-proper is located. In any event, we decided against using the pool because of its location even though we would have liked to on a couple of the warmer days.
This was one of our most memorable hotel-stays, in an equally beautiful town/location. We were sad to leave after a 4-night stay. Needless to say, we would return in a jiffy if the...
Read moreWe enjoyed very much our stay at Mekong Riverview Hotel. The rooms are tastefully designed and decorated in traditional style (beautiful wooden floors and furniture), but with modern features. The rooms are kept very clean. Our room was a bit weird with the toilet separated from the bathroom sink, requiring a walk from one room to the other to wash hands after using the toilet. The location, overlooking the Mekong River, is great and our rooms had nice views of the river. The area is a bit noisy in the early evening, with people partying on river boats and in riverside restaurants, but not terrible and not running late into the night.||The hotel offers some nice touches, like free use of bikes and transport to the citty-center and markets, and free mini-bar restocked every day. The breakfast included with our room was fresh, with varied choices to be ordered off their menu. Good, but not fantastic. The staff were all friendly and helpful. ||One negative was that the television in our room was not working and the staff said repairmen could only come on Monday (after we checked in on Saturday), but even on Monday, the TV was still not repaired and there was no offer of any discount or compensations for our room not having a working television. Also, when we arranged for transport to the train station, the staff charged us US$20; while I later reread the messages from the hotel and realized that they had earlier informed us the price would be US$18 (not a big deal, but that is not how business should be conducted). Overall, the minor negatives did not detract from our overall positive experience. Our stay was very pleasant, and we liked the hotel a lot, but there is room for it to be...

However, for those seeking to escape fast food and a fast-paced lifestyle, the Mekong Riverview Hotel is the perfect retreat. Situated at the confluence of the Nam Khan and Mekong rivers, within the UNESCO World Heritage site of Luang Prabang, this hotel offers an ideal getaway.
During our four-night stay, the Mekong Riverview Hotel exceeded all of our expectations, surpassing even the glowing online reviews and YouTube videos. The décor of our room harmonized beautifully with the historical charm of the surroundings. With a rain shower, spa bath, and a wrap-around balcony, we spent hours simply sitting and enjoying the uninterrupted solitude we sought.
Given its location, the hotel provides transportation to the busier part of Luang Prabang. For the more energetic, complimentary bicycles are available. Breakfast is included, and the restaurant is located across the street on the bank of the Nam Khan River. As the fog lifts from the hilltops across the Mekong, you can savor a delightful bowl of local rice soup.
As you may have gathered from this review, the Mekong Riverview Hotel has left a lasting impression on us, and we highly recommend you experience it...
