My partner and I decided to spend three days at New Year in Riga, and decided to book here as was able to use points from the Accor loyalty programme to pay towards the room. After flying from London we got the number 22 bus from the airport, which took around 30 minutes to the central station- the hotel is a 5-minute walk from here.||Upon arrival at the hotel reception we were met with an empty desk, and sign saying someone would be back in 20 minutes. As we were hungry and it was now getting close to 11pm, we decided to go into the next door Origo shopping centre and find some food. We then returned to the hotel, and this time there was a member of staff at reception who was able to check us in.||We were given room 335, and we were initially impressed with what we were given. The room had a contemporary feel and was of a good size. There was ample space for clothes and shoe storage, a safe and a fridge which contained a number of food and drink items for purchase, together with complimentary tea and coffee-making facilities. There was also a clean and spacious bathroom with a good quality shower.||We had breakfast included in our rate, and were quite underwhelmed by the experience. The breakfast room is not big enough for the number of guests in the hotel, meaning that people often have to wait around for a table to become available. During our stay they were also understaffed, meaning that tables weren’t cleared regularly and dirty crockery soon built up. This also meant that crockery wasn’t cleaned so there were shortages- we had to use paper cups for our coffee and orange juice. We also felt that the choice of food and drink on offer was limited, and not what you would expect for a hotel of this type.||At the end of our first day in Riga we returned to our room and noticed a strong smell of sewage. We asked if this could be dealt with or moved to another room, and reception agreed we could move to room 352. After moving in we realized that it had connecting door to the next door room, with the result that we could hear in intimate detail what was being said. This was not too much of a problem the the first night, but on the final night of our stay there was a lot of noise and I had to knock on the door to ask our neighbours to be quiet.||The hotel is well located- it is only a 10-minute walk to the Riga Old Town. The Origa shopping centre has a range of shops including a large Rimi supermarket which we visited to buy drinks and snacks during our stay. We also took a day trip to Jurmala on the coast during, and it only takes 30 minutes by train from the Central Station. There is also a spa in the hotel but guests have to pay to use it, which we found surprising.||We enjoyed spending New Year in Riga, but were slightly disappointed with our stay at the Mercure. Maybe it was the time of year but we felt that the hotel was not firing on all cylinders during our stay, and hope that this...
Read moreI recently stayed at the Mercure Riga Hotel, and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. From the moment I arrived, I encountered numerous issues that ultimately tainted my overall impression of the hotel.
Firstly, the check-in process was incredibly time-consuming. The staff seemed disorganised, arrogant and understaffed, leading to unnecessary delays and frustration.
To make matters worse, when it was time for check-out, I encountered another inconvenience. The hotel staff did not have my company details on file, which I had provided during check-in. As a result, I had to provide the information again, which wasted more of my valuable time. A well-managed hotel should have proper systems in place to ensure accurate and efficient record-keeping.
Moreover, the check-out process itself was unnecessarily protracted. It took over 20!!! minutes to, not even fully, complete a procedure that should have taken less than a minute. This further highlighted the lack of efficiency and attention to customer service.
I hope at least in an email they will be able to send an invoice.
Overall, the service I received at Mercure Riga Hotel was subpar, leaving a lasting negative impression. The prolonged check-in process, the failure to retain company details, and the drawn-out check-out process were indicative of a poorly managed establishment. The staff appeared unprepared, and the overall experience was marred by an evident lack of professionalism.
Further to that… despite clearly stating twice that I had consumed only three Pringles in the minibar during the total stay, they charged me for five. They had the audacity to invoice two for the first night and three for the second night. How on earth could I have consumed three the last night when there were only two in the room?! This is absolutely unacceptable!
Based on my disappointing experience, I regret to say that I will not be returning to the Mercure Riga Hotel. With such a wide range of accommodation options available, I would strongly advise others to consider alternative choices that prioritize efficient service and customer satisfaction.
Besides I’m a gold member...
