I chose the hotel for a business trip via Booking.com as the budget allowed was quite low. The hotel received a quite high rating on the platform.|2. The rate was around RM200 per night, which was amazing considering it was a school holiday season. All other branded or chain hotels had a rate reaching RM700 to RM1k, which was atrocious but they were all 4-star and 5-star.|3. The hotel is located very close to the city centre. The landmark is Plaza Shell, which is the opposite of a roundabout.|4. The hotel is within walking distance of the city centre. There are many eateries and shops around the vicinity, which helps if you donāt have any private transportation.|5. I checked in around 3:30 PM, right after landing in KK. The hotel staff helped me find a parking spot at the roadside. There are no dedicated parking spots at the hotel. Parking is at the roadside, and you are subjected to the parking rate by the municipality (KK City Hall).|6. I learned this the hard way ā via a parking fine. It would be great if the hotel staff informed me about this.|7. The check-in process was smooth. I was given a room on the 4th floor. The trees block the view of the city. If you want the city view, you need to request a higher floor (8th floor and above). I was glad I didnāt request for a higher floor. More about it below.|8. The staff were friendly. They greeted me with smiles everywhere which made me feel welcome.|9. There are a couple of elevators. Only one lift required card access. This was a security issue.|10. The lobby was small but clean. The lift lobby is a few steps higher. The AC vent produced condensation, forcing the hotel staff to put a rag and wet floor signage most of the time I stayed there.|11. The room was quite small but beautiful. Spaces were utilised efficiently. There was no centralised AC, only a split unit, but it was powerful. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The colour scheme used green and goldish brown, resembling Four Points by Sheraton Chinatown KL.|12. The bathroom was small, but the amenities were quite good and paraben-free. I noticed that the shower area was mouldy. I told the reception about it, and Housekeeping scrubbed the bathroom clean.|13. The TV has all the local TV channels plus a few cable channels. It is a smart TV, but the response is slow.|14. Breakfast is at the hotelās restaurant on Level 1. Due to the small space, there were two sections of the restaurant. However, the kitchen and buffet line is only on one side. You have to present your breakfast buffet coupon to have your meals.|15. The buffet spread did not offer many choices, but the foods were made fresh. The staff was around 5-6 people each time, and they were active and busy ensuring the tables were clean and food and cutlery were replenished. They used Sabah tea, a local product. There was no juice, only cordials.|16. On days 2 to 4 of my stay, one of the lifts broke down. This significantly increased waiting time, especially during breakfast. I had to use the staircase to go down to the restaurant, as the lift kept getting full before reaching my floor.|17. Overall, it was an average stay due to bathroom hygiene on the first day, lift issues and the lack of variety in the breakfast buffet. Besides that, the hotel provides a great reason to stay with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI made a reservation through booking.com for my boss but was informed by the hotel that the booking did not go through. so the hotel recommends that I book directly through a phone call (female receptionist). The price will be cheaper from booking.com and I was given a premier king bed room. 3 times I called and it was confirmed that my boss's name was on the guest list. on 16/9, my boss called the hotel to confirm the reservation before he boarded the logging ship. I was surprised when I was informed that his name was not on the list. my boss has scolded me. I called the hotel receptionist but was informed that my boss's name was not on the list. I asked how many female receptionists there are. there is only one answer. I became very angry and the situation became chaotic. The hotel promised to call me back after checking. at the same time I also tried to find another hotel if there was an empty one, unfortunately there was none. everything is full. finally the hotel called and informed that there was an empty room but not the room as previously booked but a twin bed room. I have informed my boss and he just agreed, as long as there is a room. but very sad and disappointed by this incident and hope it doesn't...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhenever I've booked online with reasonable rate, I always have the feelings the hotel mgmt will allocate an out of order room or half past six room hence to my surprise, I really got this kind of room. I am not a person very much fuss about it but still absurd me why whenever advertising such a nice room, and when checking in, it could be the worst room ever. Let me furnish the defects which I noticed in the room.. First of all, the flush doesn't work at all cuz the water leak and does not stay in the compartment, room smelly, TV did not have much channels and they still use the 80's style kind of TV, carpet dusty, torn, wet, bedsheets seems to be old, bugs in the room. The only thing looks better and satisfied is the air conditioner. Placed me next to an Iron Room which several times hearing slamming door and disturbed my sleep. I hope the Housekeeping and Engineering department could really rectify the room defects before selling to other customers. Hope to be...
