The location of this hotel is good because it is at the center of Kota Kinabalu. It is walking distance to the nearest attractions like the Atkinson Tower, Filipino Handricraft Market and Jesselton Point. However, the rooms need more improvement. We were first placed in a corner room that has poor internet connection. They only provide 2 soaps, without shampoo or toothbrush. Only 2 towels were also provided even if they knew that 3 pax had booked the room. ||The hotel owner was nice enough to transfer us to another room but still the wifi was bad. Only Malaysian channels are available on TV though this is not a problem because we were mostly out. The bidet was disgusting but I think it is common in most Malaysian toilets. It makes the floor totally wet. The rooms are not sound proof. We only got this hotel through flight + hotel package from Expedia. Cheap price but perhaps it is better to book them separately next time. Though I am a backpacker and have seen the worst accommodations for the past years, this hotel is not recommended for families with small kids or those who are particular with clean and dry bathrooms. During checkout, the owner also attempted to help in booking our car to the airport. Grab and Uber can be booked easily in...
Read moreFor a backpacker who's used to dingy hostels, this hotel has relatively great rooms - clean and good, comfortable bed. The street noise may put you off, but we had good sleep regardless, so it didn't really affect our stay. The wifi didn't work so we sought internet elsewhere (see Imago mall!). The bathroom was clean enough but everything gets soaked if you have a shower, as there is no curtain/glass to separate it from the sink/toilet. Toiletries were basic (shampoo/shower gel) but okay. The staff on the front were lovely and welcoming, though our room didn't get cleaned/made up while we were there (3 nights).||The area isn't the greatest, but it is backpacker central, and it's in quite a good location to get to places in KK. Within walking distance are large malls, some more 'local' than others, the best of which we found was the Imago mall which was around 20 minutes walk and has good wifi. Also the night markets are quite nice to browse; there is one right outside the hotel that seems to pack up around 8-9pm, as well as a large market near the water, selling all sorts of fresh food goods and clothing.||Overall a good, cheap option to stay a night or two, but any more may annoy you, depending on your tolerance...
