This is my second visit and I am writing to share our experience when we dine in @Spoon for Christmas Buffet Dinner. There were 10 of us (7 adults and 3 seniors).
Approximately 36 hours after, 4 of us had a mix of food poisoning. My brother in law was the worst with vomit and diarrhea and had to visit the clinic for a jab and took medicine as he had to travel back on a flight. Remaining 3, either vomited or diarrhea with nauseas feeling for almost 36 hours.
Why we suspected it was the buffet because all 4 of them consumed the oysters on the ice, and probably some other seafood on ice as well. To be fair, my mum took some oysters too and fortunately she was OK. Remaining of the family members were not affected as they did not consumed the oysters.
When I read through about food poisoning from Fresh Oysters, symptoms may appear within 12-72hours after consumption. As we could only highly suspected that the oysters were contaminated, please be informed that it is up to you to consider oysters consumption yourself if you were to dine in SPOON next time.
Overall, it was still a pleasant dining experience with decent servings (could have been much better with the grill section as the grill fish was extremely chewy) with slightly pricier food tag due to Christmas - paid RM1800 for 10pax. Food were tagged wrongly, example beef satay was tagged with Chicken satay and salmon was tagged with some beef dishes name.
Lastly, I have email to g-hotel about the food poisoning experience 1 week ago but no reply was received, which is a great disappointment from a...
Read moreWe had a sumptuous and happy Chinese New Year Reunion Buffet Dinner at Spoon @ G Hotel Kelawai.
Location: The hotel sits behind its sister hotel, G Hotel Gurney, and beside the very popular and iconic Gurney Plaza Mall.
Parking: Plenty of paid parking bays at the hotel or at the Gurney Plaza parking bays.
Ambience: Our family is of the opinion that Spoon @ G Hotel Kelawai is a very impressive F&B wing of the hotel in that it exudes an air of privacy and comfort for both top-tier executives and discerning diners.
Buffet Spread: Our Reunion dinner comprised an outstanding list of buffet items comprising starters, entrees, soups, action noodle station, fruits, delightful desserts (cakes, tartlets, traditional Chinese New Year cookies and goodies, ice cream, and more). Beverages include a selection of coffee choices from the coffee machines, tea as well as fresh juices.
Food Quality: Of high standards.
Price: Value for money considering the long list of variety and amount of food offered for 3.5 hours (6.30pm - 10pm).
Lavatory: Very clean and comfortable.
Overall Experience: Delighted by the Spoon associates for their absolute attentiveness and friendliness and, most of all, the willingness to help us celebrate the CNY Reunion. Thank you and keep the high quality food and service up.

Read moreAvoid!!! We waited 2 and a half hours for 2 x hainanese chicken rice and a seafood spaghetti. I have never waited so long for food in my life, and even more unacceptable in a 5 star hotel. Seafood spaghetti was tasty, hainanese chicken rice was inedible as the rice was undercooked and had no flavour. Manager gave 50% off, but we should not have paid at all. He was unapologetic stating that there was a big party and that the rice needed to be cooked from scratch. What a terrible attitude for a manager to have! The other waiting staff were apologetic and doing their best. The manager could use some lessons from his staff on how to deal with customers.
EDIT: Breakfast buffet is good quality, with a nice selection of options. Staff are extremely helpful. Manager has since apologised for the previous dinner. Dinner buffet on Friday and Saturday is OK, quality of the dishes could be improved especially give the price is RM120+. Changed from...
