My wife and I have booked 3 nights at Georgetown Residences hostel via Hostel World. (2 beds in the mixed dorm) In reality, we went to check the hostel the previous night, and they took us around and then we booked.
We unfortunately faced a few issues in the one single night we ended up staying:
the lockers (in the dorm) did not have locks, and when we raised that to reception, they simply said they don't have anymore locks to give to guests and that we needed to buy some in order to lock our valuables in their lockers.
We expressed our disappointment and that at the very least they should highlight that to guests in advance (in their Hostel World details for instance), and that they should have mentioned that to us when we visited the previous day, to make us aware we would need to have locks.
When we escalated this to the owner (who I talked to in the phone), he eventually advised that we could leave valuables with the staff at reception; however, in the evening, there was no one at reception to either leave items with them or retrieve them later...
in the evening, when we went to sleep, we discovered that the window just next to our beds doesn't close completely and there's a gap of 5 cm, and since there was a club next door, we barely had any sleep throughout the night! and again there was no one at reception to talk to and raise the issue then.
there was simply NO internet connectivity at all, we tried the dorm, the sitting and reading area, close to the bathrooms, it did not work in one single location, internet was simply off.
whenever we tried to talk to the staff, they were impatient, not very professional, and wouldn't actually listen to what we have to say, they'll just cut you and talk without resolving the concern, we found it very difficult and quite frustrating to communicate with them.
So following morning, we went to reception and asked to cancel the remaining 2 nights as we were absolutely unhappy (didn't sleep through the night and wasted one day of connectivity as we had no Internet); They said it's ok and that they will cancel remaining 2 nights and refund us; however they only refunded 108 MYR instead of 132 MYR. we were too tired to argue so we just left, so in the end we didn't even get all of our remaining money back; where, really, we should have had a compensation for the time and energy we have wasted through a sleepless night and...
Read moreI would love to rate Georgetown residences higher but due to a number of reasons I am unable to. Our first impressions of the hostel were great, free WiFi, free breakfast, spacious rooms and modern, fun decor. This all lived up to what was expected to begin with and the hostel also provided towels and spacious lockers which really pleased us. However, once we had settled in we realised that the WiFi didn’t connect in the room and we were left unable to have breakfast on two of our four days due to the hostel running out of bread. They also ran out of tea, butter and creamer on these days. We told reception but he just said he’d been busy and we were left to pay for our breakfast again elsewhere. In addition to the lack of breakfast, there was another problem which made our stay uncomfortable. We were put into a girls dorm with only one other guest in. She was a long term tenant who had sectioned off a corner of the room with blankets. This was fine apart from she told us off for being too loud when we had just checked in at 8:30pm, before lights out. The problems continued when the next day when she blasted music for hours then watched a whole film without her headphones in, only to ask us to be quiet again at 9pm when we got back from dinner. I asked her to stop playing her music and we would try to be quieter. The next day we received an apology note and gift from her and we forgot about the incident, despite her continuing to play music. On the following day she decided to have a go at us for not giving her a thank you gift for her apology, which we never asked for! She ended up being very rude and sarcastic. Her attitude towards us completely ruined our stay here and we would not return. Other guests have told us she has made people leave or change rooms. My advice to the hostel would be to ask her to leave. She is ruining your reputation. Without her this would have been a 4 star review with breakfast as the only downfall (as we managed to log into the WiFi from the cafe below). I’d happily return and recommend this place to others if this girl...
Read moreIt was my first time to stay in a hostel and what can I say? I loved every second of my stay there thanks to Ate Bernie, Ate Che and Kuya Pare. :) They work at the hostel and they're really friendly! I didn't feel lonely or bored thanks to these sweet and cheerful people. :) The hostel is really clean from the corridors, to the rooms and the bathroom. Cleanliness and comfort is really important to me so there's not one bit of a problem. Breakfast is free and no worries for lunch and dinner since the location of the hostel is perfect. Everywhere is walking distance. 7-11 is just right around the area and I've found an Indian restaurant which is really good with affordable meals. The mall is 15 minutes away from there too if you want to go shopping. Also, thanks to Ate Che for persuading me to visit the famous street arts. It's just a 15-minute walk to where most of the street arts are. Just take a map with you which is available at the front desk and you'll have no problem going around even if you're alone. No need to spend money on taxis or any vehicles. Enjoy every bit of it by walking and I assure you, it will all be worth it. I even walked as far as to where the clock tower is and then walked around the Esplanade. The only regret I had was not being able to visit the 3D Art Museum. Here are some photos I took....
