Touchdown in Penang—no time to waste! The first order of business? Dive straight into some authentic flavours and get our hands smelling like curry (and loving it). We headed to Nasi Kandar Line Clear, tucked away in a charming side alley, serving an array of aromatic dishes that beckon foodies from far and wide.
For my plate, I went all out with lamb curry, squid eggs, a side of lady fingers, and fresh-cut cucumbers. This was my first-ever experience with Nasi Kandar Line Clear, and I have to admit, my expectations were sky-high. While that first bite didn’t exactly deliver the “life-changing” magic I’d hoped for (haha!), it quickly grew on me. The curry had a unique Penang twist—subtle yet spicier, with a velvety smooth texture that sets it apart from the grainier curries I’m used to in Kuala Lumpur. That smoothness, paired with its heat, might just be the signature charm that makes Penang’s nasi kandar so sought after. And let me tell you, the spices hit just right—I was sweating, but in the best way possible!
Meanwhile, my wife opted for plain rice paired with fried chicken. The chicken was a winner—crispy on the outside, juicy and flavourful on the inside. A true comfort dish. Despite it being 9 PM, there was still a steady queue of eager diners lining up for their plates, which speaks volumes about the reputation of this spot.
So, if you’re in Penang, this iconic nasi kandar joint deserves a spot on your foodie checklist. Give it a try—you might just discover the magic...

As a local Penangite who’re back to the hometown for Raya, me and my partner just wanted to try to see whether the quality of this place, is it still the same or flop or increase. Turns out to be, mehhhh
I paid RM22.50 for one scoop of squid egg, one scoop of beef trip, one scoop of cabbage, and half portion of rice. Mind you, ONE SCOOP ISN’T MUCH AT ALL!!! Wtf??? When I ate it, IT ISN’T A STRUGGLE AT ALL TO FINISH IT. It’s not about the taste, THE PORTION ARE TOO LITTLE!!!
My partner took one piece of chicken, one scoop of cabbage, 2 pieces of okras and one portion of rice, only for RM13.
And Lime Ice, costed RM2.50. RM2.50 just for a stupid one piece of lime and ice water!!! Again, wtf!
Taste wise, it’s been flopped a lot. Honestly travellers, listen and trust my judgement, as a local Penangite myself. THERE ARE REASONABLE PRICE AND TASTES WAYYYY BETTER NASI KANDAR PLACE than this one!!
I’ll NEVER COMING BACK AGAIN TO THIS...

I went for the classic combo fluffy white rice drenched in a mix of kuah banjir , paired with crispy fried chicken and a side of okra. The flavors were intense, a perfect balance of spices that left a lingering heat. My family enjoyed their own selections, each plate looking more tempting than the next.
Despite the crowd, the service was quick, and the lively atmosphere made the experience even more enjoyable.
