Rasa Sayang Hotel — Hotel in Pahang

I stayed for two nights whilst visiting the Cameron Highlands and whilst not expecting much for the price, I did expect a decent nights sleep and a bit more of a welcome & help from the staff. ||The hotel is accessed directly off the main road up two flights of stairs above an empty shop and a karaoke bar with no security measures to stop anyone just walking in and no additional locks on the doors or safes in the room. There was rarely any staff around and found men (maybe guests but not friendly faces) hanging around the stairwells smoking and leaving cigarette ends in the hallway. ||The karaoke bar was noisy each night till midnight and the soundproofing between rooms is non existent. I had a better nights sleep in a dormitory sound wise than a private room here. The shared bathroom bedrooms have no windows and are just partitioned off, you could hear the neighbours unzipping bags and even opening water bottles. I had to move due to the noise in my first room and an aggressive neighbour refusing to turn his loud Indian music down, the receptionist wanted to charge me more money to change room even though many were empty and he didn’t even try to speak to the noisy guest. ||No help or guidance was offered on the local area or hiking trails, no other backpackers/hikers staying there so felt very isolated. ||The positives are that it’s close to the bus stop. The town is much bigger than I expected with many restaurants and shops all in walking distance. There was hot water and the cleanliness levels were good although the rooms very basic. No AC but really not needed at all in the cool highlands, warm blanket provided. Paths 4/5/7 in walking distance, operators providing tours locally for 45-70RM for 1/2 & full days which I would recommend as unless you are super fit and have the correct gear some of the paths are really impassable in places and slippery, not just steep but having to use hands and feet to pull yourself up over ledges and fallen trees. ||On checking out the receptionist was asleep on the floor behind the counter at 08:30am, very unprofessional. ||If you are zonked out from a major hike you might get a good nights sleep otherwise pick elsewhere and don’t expect any help or interaction. They wanted to charge us 3 additional taxes that we already paid in the booking. We book the room for 22MYR and the reception guy told us we had to pay 18MYR more that doesnt appear anywhere (because the price of the room he says is 40MYR) and also 10MYR more for the tourist tax plus 3MYR more for the suistanibility tax.|He told us that if we had any problem we had to call agoda and we were about 3hours in the reception without having our room trying to solve this bc we didnt want to pay extra money that doesnt appear anywhere written.|After 3hours agoda accepted given us back the extra money that the reception guy scamed us. He said it was a hidden tax (his own words).|There were other people in the reception complaining about the same matter.|Do not recommend for the money we had to pay eventually and the conditions of the hostel, furthermore they want to scam you and they do not help you at anything.|We have been traveling for 3 months and this is the only bad review we have...

Hi. Its was nightmare stay at this hotel. There is no electric in room switch and heater. Im calling the receptionist alot of times. They said its electric fault. And they said can use the outside room washroom. Its like we shared washroom. I paid for private bathroom but lastly get shared bathroom. I don't know why reception always empty . No one sit there. I waste my time for calling receptionist for the electric fault. Im so desperate stay there. Totally customer service are out !!! I checked out early around 7am. When i want, pass the room key ,there is no one at reception. They put notice that put key inside basket. I feel like totally unsafe stay there.if anything emergency happens means no one will be there for help. Lastly im done with this hotel. In agoda said got wifi. But there is no wifi. NO MORE RASA SAYANG HOTEL...
