Taiping is a town that has fast become popular. It is like my second home and I go often to see family. I’ve stayed and looked at many hotels that are great when new but very quickly get run down, and yet their prices are high. I’m usually disappointed at the quality of rooms and low maintenance after a while, but I was so very pleasantly surprised that Epoch hotel maintains a high level of cleanliness and the rooms look and feel new. I was also happy with the space as it did not feel small at all and was adequately spaced out to be comfortable. The ac is strong and stable.
I contacted them directly to book and my enquiry and subsequent reservation was handled promptly by Guan and with a high level of communication and customer service.
The location is very strategic being opposite two chinese coffee shops, a malay food shop serving a variety opened till late on weekends, and on Sat a little road market selling t shirts, bunnies, baked goods & more just around the corner. Basically u are in the middle of town and can walk to a lot of yr favourite food places. However, bcos of the location there will be noise fr the street and on weekends the noise fr people eating and hanging out only dissipates around 2am when the shops close. This is expected being in the heart of town and by no means the hotel’s fault as the location makes up for this. Also being a budget friendly establishment, it is easy to hear noise fr the corridors and housekeeping. This too is to be expected, my advice is to bring ear plugs like I always do and the noise issue goes away. I am a light sleeper and this works for me, so bring yours if you’re the same.
Overall, am very pleased with the booking experience, the room, the spotless bathroom was really a huge plus for this hotel and I appreciated that so much. But, the mattresses have started to lose its shape so that could be something they want to look into. Perhaps something harder not made with foam so it wont sink in parts. At this stage it is still acceptable, but unsure what the mattress will be like in another year. Also, there is no fridge and no lift. The hotel has three floors with rooms so if you are elderly or have health issues u may request a lower floor.
I will not hesitate to stay and book again because I feel the place is run to a high standard esp where hygiene is concerned which is a major point for me. I hope this is maintained. The addition of a fridge could be useful for keeping drinks cold, but I suspect they want to minimise people bringing food in as well. But this is one of those conveniences that you would hope to have if you can, and yet even without one, I was ok.
Epoch stands out to me as an honest, transparent business, no frills budget hotel but gives u what u really need for a great and pleasant stay. Do consider this hotel when u come to...
Read moreI'll be the first to write a review for this hotel. For what we paid, it was reasonable. Quite uncomfortable for family, this is why we booked 2 rooms. The location is great, there's plenty of dining options just outside of the hotel. The only reason why I'm giving it 4 stars is because of housekeeping, I understand they were probably understaffed and feeling urged to clear the room before we checked in, but due to this we found a used underwear on top of the shelves which they neglected to remove because they were in a rush and probably didn't notice it...
