We booked the hotel last minute on Agoda and got a bargain at only RM114 for two queen bed room. Check in Dec 13 for one night. However, we got an upgrade with one room having 1Q and 1 super single. Pay RM50 for deposit. 1)The room is super clean with new adjoining toilet and shower. 2)Because it's a heritage building, they have high ceilings which means that the shower is way up there. The hot water is not adjustable but if you want it less hot, put the shower on full blast. 3)The mattress is so comfy and so is the duvet. There's TV with local channels, HBO and local radio stations. 4) There is a hot and cold water dispenser at the common area. 5) location wise walkable to all the eating place, Taiping mall and just next to Watson, kedai Hari-Hari and 7/11. 6) Reception are aged persons and on the day of checking in, a very jovial and helpful Malay guy. 7) Normal rate for queen bed is RM99(promo) and the 2Q1Single is RM148. 8) Am glad we tried out the hotel, it was a good stay. No other amenities, so bring your own toiletries as they provide only small May soaps just like the good old days..

Center of town. An old mansion just got renovated for it's room amenities and facilities in 2021. Nice room. Spacious and clean. Staff are super friendly and welcoming. Show us the different room type. Don't talk or do any activity too loud because the sound proof is not that effective. Bring your own shampoo if you do not want to use just the soap, cause thats the only washing item provided with the towel and toothbrush.

Lovely mansion feel where you can literally walk up to your room. The car park is very spacious and the front desk is right in front making it very safe. Rooms were very clean. Water pressure surprisingly strong, with a basic heater. Aircon was a nice new daikin. Mattress was firm and sheets nice and white. Walking distance to the food market which is a plus!

My dad went to this place and was greeted with disgusting services. He went there for 4 nights due to business. Everything was great until the last day where he met the morning counter service lady with disgusting tricks and behaviour.

My dad did the payment with her. He made sure the payment was done without any issues and left due to an emergency issue. When he later returned to the hotel, the lady demanded more money for the reason she said that she gave extra change just now.

My dad started arguing with her and said that it was her fault for not making sure with the payment and said that it was done. During the argument, she repeatedly used ENGLISH to insult my dad for his inability to speak ENGLISH and kept arguing with english.

My dad felt insulted and just wanted it to be over by paying more money. Just because he did the full payment, but was insulted with language that is not familiar with him.

He was ok with paying extra but not with what he experienced. The manager later came and tried helping with the situation by providing a full return for the room payment. My dad insisted on staying last night there and paid the extra money.

He didn't want anymore trouble as his luggage was still in the room and he didn't want to move to another hotel for this last night.

He did mention that aside from the service, everything is great. The bathroom however is a little bit small...

Well if you’re looking for part of Taiping history it is in-this hotel. Part of the Taiping heritage trail. An old world colonial hotel that was used as the HQ for the kempetai or Japanese security police during the occupation. There’s wooden floors and old fashioned ceiling fans. Some of the rooms have seen better days but hotel was undergoing renovation when I visited. The staff are friendly and helpful. It’s near the food market. There’s a pharmacy next door. Walk to the lake gardens if there’s no rain as this is the wettest town in Malaysia. And it’s a 15 to 20 minutes walk to train station where you can catch the train to Penang or KL. Don’t expect big city amenities but enjoy the small town feel of the historical colonial hotel that’s seen many a trader, wayfarer, soldier or security man & live like they did from time when things moved slower. However the WiFi here was faster than my mobile data so maybe there’s one or two minor changes. Also tv is available. They also sell water and some toiletries...
