After having a wonderful seafood lunch at Kuala Sepetang, a friend is our group wanted to try out Ansari's cendol. We rode through the rain and made it there. Before we even took our gear off and sat down, one of the guys manning the place rudely and in a loud voice told us off and said 'Melayu tak boleh makan sini...sekarang puasa'. This was in front of every patron there.
Funny thing is, there was no Malay/Muslim in our group at all. There were 6 of us, 4 chinese and 2 mixed eurasians with tattoos. ( we still dont get the insinuation). We told him politely that none of us are Muslim and we sat down while every patron there stared at us. We place our order, finished the cendol and left after about 5mins. As we were about to leave, he had the audacity to ask why we didnt want to try the pasembor. We told him we were full after a heavy lunch and left.
Now, we have visited Taiping many times and we have nothing but the best things to say about Taiping. We love the place, love the food and the locals are a delight to chat with. We absolutely love coming to Taiping.
This ugly incident with Ansari wont deter us from coming back but we will avoid Ansari from now on. We understand that the guy was trying to protect his business during the fasting month and all but he could have approach the matter in a pleasant and professional manner and not chastise us like we were 5yr old.
Now back on to the cendol...watered down santan with brown sugar instead of gula melaka...not even close to a ballpark of being decent. Apologies Ansari but...
Read moreThe last leg of our 3 Package Breakfast Deal for the party of 14 was supposed to be at Lien Tong, which had gathered some mixed reviews...But unfortunately, they were closed for business! It was very unlikely for them to be off on a thursday, so the jury is still out on this one, and the debate continues...🤔🤔 Lien Tong's loss is apparently Ansari Cendol's gain...We made a quick detour to this place, and surprisingly, we became their first customers of the day! And obviously, the main attraction is the famous cendol, which are served with some options; just a plain cendol, or cendol with pulut, or cendol with pulut and kacang..Most of us went for the Triple Treat, and never regretted the decision!!👍👍😋😋 Another specialty of theirs is the pasembor, which we ordered as a side dish, to be shared by all...The servings for both cendol and pasembor were just nice, neither too big, nor too small, and quite easy on our tummies...We were very proud of ourselves for successfully completing this 3 Package Breakfast Deal, and deserve a pat on our backs, and for some of us, with a huge belly to show...
Read moreDelicious and savory cendol that no one should miss when you're in Taiping, or even the state of Perak. One is hooked just after the 1st sip, and will definitely come back for more. The green cendol strips comes in just the right texture, squishy, slippery and chewy but not too soft; the base tastes just right, sweet, savory and refreshing without being too gooey; and the red beans are absolutely delectable. The cendol here gives off whiffs of grandpa, which reminds you of your childhood innocence and child-like purity. Grandpa's wrinkled face overlaps with the pattern of cendol strips in the bowl, reflecting grandpa's loving smile that has been long forgotten since his passing. My eyes blurred, droplets of tears adding saltines to my bowl of cendol. Oh dear grandpa, you will be dearly missed and be in our hearts forever and ever. I'll visit Ansari Famous Cendol Taiping as often as I could to relish your spiritual presence and aroma through Ansari's bowls of...
