If pubs were people, The Londoner would be your charming British uncle who wears flip-flops in summer, knows all the football scores, and insists you try his homemade cocktail (which suspiciously tastes like Aperol Spritz). Located on the bustling Triq ix-Xatt, this place offers both indoor and outdoor seating. Normally, the crowd flocks outside like moths to a pint, but thanks to the Maltese sun doing its best impression of a sauna, we retreated indoors like sensible northern Europeans. Ambience? Modern, clean, and just posh enough to make you feel like you’re not in a dive bar, but not so posh that you feel guilty ordering a Guinness before noon. Staff? Friendly, fast, and fluent in the international language of “Happy Hour.” Yes, that glorious Maltese tradition lives on here: buy one cocktail, get another free. My partner tried the Aperol Spritz which were fresh and dangerously drinkable. Beer selection? Solid. I went international with an Irish Guinness Stout and a Danish Carlsberg, because why not celebrate the EU one pint at a time? Food? Classic pub fare done right. We had the Fish and Chips (crispy, golden, and not pretending to be healthy) and the Wellington Burger, which was beefy, cheesy, and probably illegal in three countries due to its deliciousness. Bonus points: There was a TV showing Vuelta’s 19th stage, so I could pretend I was being sporty while eating fried food and sipping stout. Verdict: Whether you're escaping the sun, chasing cocktails, or just want to watch elite cyclists while eating chips, The Londoner delivers. Highly recommend — just don’t forget your sunglasses and...
Read moreHi there. Our first visit there was brilliant. Great food and great service. Our second visit though....nowhere close to the first one. We've turned up in a larger group (about 10 of us). We've been given some sitting inside. As it was a work visit for us in Malta, and we needed to discuss work related things, We've politely asked for some seats outside because the music inside was very loud and couldn't hear each other. The waiter, very polite and helpful, said he will join a couple of tables on the terrace outside for us so we can carry on. We have walked outside and started joining 2 tables...at the far end of the terrace, towards the street. At that point, a person (the manager i guess) started shouting that we are not allowed to do that as we are blocking everything. As I said, the tables were right by the edge of the street and weren't blocking anything. I said he was shouting, don't want to be mean or anything, maybe he was shouting because of the music, but if you want to complain to a customer about something, there's different ways of doing it and not shouting for everyone to hear. Anyway, the food, service and atmosphere was brilliant on our first visit so I would give The Londoner another chance on my next visit. This is to get you and the manager of the pub aware of how things should be done so the customers won't feel disrespected even if they have done against your...
Read moreOne of Sliema's many restaurants which dot the main street, the Londoner was one I ended up visiting more than once. I'd definitely recommend the half rack ribs, it was one of the most delicious rib meals I've had anywhere (note - only order the full rack if you intend to share with more than one person, the half rack is large enough and additionally comes with fries). They also have a daily happy hour cocktail offer wherein you order one and get a second identical one free - for this, I'd recommend the "London eye", it tasted fabulous. The restaurant has outdoor and indoor sitting areas, food wait times are short, customer service is good and their price point is moderate (budget approx €25 - €35 per person for food + drink). Their food portion sizes are quite...
