PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU BOOK OCEAN VILLA GRAND BAIE||We had the worst experience at Ocean Villa. We checked in around 18:30 after a long workday, expecting a relaxing weekend. At first, the reception area gave a welcoming impression, but everything went downhill from there. ||Misleading Booking & Unfair Treatment |We booked a villa with a pool view, based on the images displayed across their website and social media. The pictures made it seem like the villa was beachfront with a pool view, which is why we made the reservation. However, when a staff member led us to our room, we were shocked. The reality was completely different from the images online. ||- The curtains were not as shown in their online pictures—instead, they were old-fashioned and unappealing. |- The bathroom was not clean, with water stains and brownish marks on the ceiling. |- The wardrobe was broken. |- The terrace was dirty, with leaves everywhere, showing a complete lack of maintenance. |- The pathway to the villa was dark, with no lighting, and leaves were scattered all over. |- The towels were smelly, which was very unpleasant. |- The sofa pillows had moisture stains and were dirty. |- The sliding door track was filthy and not cleaned at all. |- The kiosk was already broken on top, making the place look abandoned and haunted. ||Deception About the Pools |When we were taken to our villa, the staff only showed us two pools, even though the property actually has three. We later asked a security guard how many pools there were, and he confirmed there were three. He then took us to the third pool, which was the beachfront pool we had seen in their photos. ||We were excited to finally take a swim and went to the reception to ask for toothpaste, which the lady thankfully provided. However, we also asked her why we were not shown the beachfront pool initially. She told us that some guests had booked three villas for their families and did not want to be disturbed. ||We asked if we could move to an empty villa in that area and offered to pay extra, but she refused, saying: |"The clients are difficult and don’t like being disturbed." ||We then asked if the pool was private, and she clearly stated that it was NOT private and that we had the right to use it. However, she still insisted that we should not disturb the other guests, which was completely unfair since we had paid to enjoy the same facilities. ||Horrible Room Conditions |The room itself was in terrible condition: |- The bathtub was broken, making it impossible to enjoy a bath. |- When showering, water leaked all over the bathroom and under the sink. |- The bed was two single beds pushed together, which kept separating during the night, making it extremely uncomfortable. |- The bedsheets were as thin as a bathrobe and too small for two people. |- We called reception late at night to ask for an extra sheet, but no one answered. ||Terrible Dining Experience |At dinner, the food was disappointing: |- The fried noodles were too salty. |- The chicken croustillant was soaked in oil. ||For Rs 9,000 per night (Rs 18,000 for two nights), the food was not worth it at all. ||No Assistance & Dirty Pools |We went back to our room frustrated and spoke to the receptionist about our concerns, but she simply told us to wait until morning as no one responsible was available. ||We also asked her to turn on the pool lights, and she bluntly said there were none. ||The next morning, we woke up to a huge shock—the pool was green and filthy. At this point, we could not stay another night. We immediately went to the reception to demand a refund, as the place was far too dirty to enjoy. The receptionist agreed but only refunded half the amount. ||Unmaintained Beach |To make things worse, the beach was dirty, with rocks everywhere and leaves all over the shore. It was completely unmaintained, making it impossible to enjoy a relaxing time by the beach. ||From the bottom of our hearts, we do not want anyone else to fall into their trap of beautiful online pictures. The reality is completely different. It was one of the worst experiences we’ve had in Mauritius, and we would never recommend this place to anyone looking for a weekend getaway. ||Avoid this place...

Read moreBudget price - Average hotel There were good and bad things about this hotel.
it is not a terrible hotel and was appropriate for the 3 nights that we were there BUT the hotel is a little run down (though they are in the process of renovating the restaurant, The bar area is looking great). Things are a little shabby - from marked walls to towels that were clean but had seen better days.
It is fairly well placed - close to Grand Bai - about 200 Rupees by taxi. We were booked in to one of the modern Pool View rooms which shares a semi private pool with 5 other rooms. The new pools are stunning and always clean. Pool View Room a lovely room and I thought it was great especially considering the budget.
The evening menu was very average, the food while completely edible was very bland. Breakfast was always good with excellent omelets. The service is very slow, with sometimes only 1 waiter on duty to serve drinks and clear plates. Which means it can take a while to get your drinks and even longer if you want a second. The staff often bring the bill even when you have not asked for it in their rush to finish up dinner service.
Employees dont have a proper uniform as they wear what ever they want, so it can be tricky to find some one for a drink or to ask for assistance. Staff also knock off at 10. So there is no staff to assist with anything later than that. We had an early morning transfer & we had to wake up the security guard that sleeps by our pool to collect our bags and take them (and us) out the delivery entrance! The staff, while pretty friendly, are very poorly trained and take no pride in customer service.
There is a little shop that sells food and drinks if you self cater or just want some extras, is very dirty & cluttered - I just turned around and left. We would just walk abut 1 km to the left of the hotel to a super market - there is a awesome Chinese seafood restaurant opposite that shop - just go through the little black door in the wall. It is well worth the walk.
They say there are water sports available include Speed Boat ride, Banana Boat ride, Skiing, Glass bottom boat ride and kayaking BUT it seems to be quite haphazard. Some activities happen on some days and then nothing on others. Also if there are 2 activities for a day, they tend to be at the same time so you have to choose when booking the day before. They only do them once in the morning and nothing after 11.
While our last minute stay there was pleasant I cant say I...
