Kat$u has easily become our favorite spot in Grand Baie. This unassuming and casual eatery offers a dining experience that’s as friendly as it is fresh. Owner Vincent and his staff are wonderfully approachable, helpful, and genuinely welcoming, adding to the charm of the place.
After a fantastic takeaway experience, we returned for a sit-down meal, and it did not disappoint. Choosing our own whole fish and gambas from the display case made the experience feel personal and interactive. We opted for fresh babonne (grouper) prepared two ways: sashimi with soy sauce and pink peppercorns, and grilled to perfection with a homemade marinade and pesto chili sauce. Both were outstanding and highlighted the incredible quality of the ingredients.
The grilled gambas—freshwater prawns from a mountain lake—were another highlight, juicy and full of flavor. And let’s not forget the veggie dish! It was a surprise hit, bursting with flavor and as thoughtfully prepared as the seafood.
Kat$u’s blend of exceptional food and warm service makes it a must-visit. Whether for takeaway or a casual meal, it’s a place that lets its fresh ingredients and welcoming atmosphere shine. Highly...
Read moreI had the chance to try this cute little place, just on the main road near Pointe aux Canonniers. It is easy to miss it from the main road, as it is slightly tucked away inside a yard. Parking is available inside or just off the road. The menu is quite extensive and varied, as per the picture I uploaded - but allows for customisation, which is great! They also have several options as extras, which are worth a look. You won't find anything similar in Mauritius, and this reminded me of the times I used to have Chicken katsu curries back in the UK. I went for a kat$u burger and fries, and although it was slightly pricey, the quality of ingredients was top notch and the taste was good too - it felt healthy eating. The Satay wrap is rumoured to be delish, so that will be next on the...
Read moreThe environment of the place is great, the owner is welcoming and friendly but the food is neither Thai nor Japanese but only a westernized version of them which is honestly disappointing. The satay sauce lacked the nutty flavor The green curry seemed to contain coriander instead of Thai basil and lacked spiciness. The papaya salad lacked the Thai touch (no fish sauce or chilies)
People who never went to Asian countries and tasted true Asian food may find the food great but if you wish to relive the authentic Asian food experience I...
